guys.to replace a rear seal (i recently replaced my rear from an older truck, with higher miles) and or rear bearing replacement, you must have one of these.
don't let whats happening to me,happen to you!
as common as this rear axle is and as many trucks on the road today that this tool fits, you may find your local auto store doesn't stock it!
i know,strange as heck.
it is not the same size as the front d50/d60.oh no.that would be too easy if they shared the same size spindle nuts.
this weekend i figured id snug up the self adjusters myself because the brakes didn't feel so hot.well the tire was soaked in gear lube.no wonder.
so iv got to replace a rear seal.no big deal.well it sure can turn into one if you need to wait for a tool to arrive.
been down since the weekend.the tool is being shipped into local auto zone.
Mile Marker 15009-01
many other brands and part numbers and places to buy too.
do yourself a favor and buy this tool to have on hand before you need it.
an hour or so downtime,vs days.
my hindsight is 20/20 tip for ya lol.

I feel for you. Lucked out that Autozone had one on the shelf when I needed it. I didn't luck out when I needed to do the spindle bearings on my D60 front and didn't have the socket. Luckily I used a chisel VERY gingerly and didn't damage it, but not taking a chance next time. Hope they get that socket in for you soon!

I have the sockets for D44, D50, D60, front and rear.
And in a pinch being a toolmaker, I've been known to make something to get me through. Piece of pipe or tube the right size, a few minutes on the lathe and with a welder, and a sacrificed socket, and I'm good to go.
Few years ago a friend was complaining about the sockets for the lock nuts on his highway truck/trailer axles (somewhere up around 3-4"?) not standing up due to the high torques (somewhere up around 450 ft/lbs?) so I made one for him from hardened steel. Weighed about 8 pounds, but he never had another rounded corner on the nut or socket again!!

ah!!! if i only you were in Maine! that's the gem.
(for those unfamiliar, the one on the right.)
seems to be a little confusion as to if it's actually coming or not to local AZ.
supposed to come in from now til 3pm if it was in fact properly ordered.
i guess the recent storm slowed things down.
being down for a simple what,like1 hour at most probably, shoot call it 2 hours if ya want lol (including cleaning up everything with loads of brake cleaner, and or just replacing the shoes on this side with the ones i bought already) is really a bugger!
i tried calling up local ford garage to see if i could rent, borrow, buy the tool from them.no such luck there either.
i'm still finding this confusing as heck as to why it's not readily stocked item with so many 10.25's and as i understand it,it still fits the 10.50 as well.
that's like since the early 80's to current with god knows how many of these out there on the pavement.
strangest dang thing i ever seen.
guess it goes to show ya,these seals, bearings don't give much trouble too often or something.
make sure you buy this tool as soon as you can to toss in the tool box guys!
you don't want to be down for a day or more just because of a dang seal.
few bucks cheaper than local auto zone even right here guys;
http://www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-648...ref=pd_cp_hi_0
(might want to just verify that elsewhere.i always do,cus amazons descriptions are sometimes wrong.)
you'd just have to grab something else to get free shipping.perhaps grab a seal to have on hand too?
oh if i could turn back time.

I found that from Advance auto parts I could buy their whole kit containing a handful of sockets (including the size needed for the D60 front end as well as the 10.25 rear end) and the smaller one needed for the smaller 250 TTB front axle and others I haven't used yet for less than buying the two D60 and 10.25 sockets individually, so I bought the kit. Best part was they had it there as part of their tool rental kit. They're most definitely handy to have in your tool arsenal when you need them!

I just did mine recently. After doing some research I knew it would take a special socket. I happen to have it in FWD spindle kit. I am a auto mechanic. I had never done rear seals on a 10.25". Man that ratchet nut is awesome. It's right hand threads on the right side and left hand threads on left side. Torque to 60 lbs/ft then back off 5 clicks.
I got the expensive Timkens. I don't know how important it was, but they are kind of a 2 piece seal. $17.00 apiece compared to $2.00 for the cheapest. I read somewhere there was an upgraded seal I assumed this was it.

yeah that's what i put in too.Timken 370047A.
was over 30 bucks at AZ locally, but it sure looks beefy.
pretty simple job really.it took far more time spraying brake cleaner than anything.
i went 65 ft lbs and 5 clicks back.shes running good.i just drove about 100 miles.back in action.
did i mention this should be in every toolbox? lol.you don't want to be without it guys.

This looks like a nice set for $99. Will this work on my 1986 F350 2WD Dually? Im looking at the kit because generally one socket is $50.

Here's a link off E-Bay
OTC Stinger 4 Wheel Drive Locknut Lug Nut Socket Set 4543 OTC4543A New in Case | eBay
They might be a discontinued item as E-Bay is about all that's popping up on Google. It looks like the same socket set as yours though.
