Hey guys I ordered some new injectors and will be installing them tomorrow in my 1985 F250 4x4 6.9idi.
I have had the old injectors out and dealt with the high pressure and return lines but I was wondering if there was anything special or any advice you guys can give me on installing the new ones? Anything I need to do so I don't screw something up? This is my first diesel and I would hate to do anything bad to it, I am replacing the original injectors approx 130k miles on them, IP was done less than 5k ago, so were glow plugs, I have a fresh air cleaner and fuel filter to install, I also bypassed the stock water/fuel seperator until my after market one comes. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am not sure if there is a DIY write up out there, but if someone wants to help me write it up I can snap a ton of pictures and host them for future refrence.
Make sure you dont drop anything down the injector holes, Use some anti seize compound on them and lube up the O rings so they dont bind when putting on the return caps....And dont forget the copper washers.
Ya I also picked up an install kit with new o-rings and washers and full return line kit. Anti seize is a mix I love that stuff. I am going to assemble the new ones and then replace the old ones one at a time so the holes are never open for more than a second or two.
To make it easier just go ahead and take them all out but sick a paper towel in the injector holes,Then when reassembling put them in and get a piece of tin foil and place it over each injector after you get the return ring on, That way you can work on them all with no hard lines in the way,Then put the hard lines back on one at a time..
Be sure that old copper washers come out on the injector, or get them out if they are still seated in the bore. Usually sticking in a standard screwdriver with a light tap will make the washer stick to it and you can get it out. Make sure that the seats where the new copper washer will sit are clean.
