Where to buy a C6 4X4 for the 79 F150
Hey guys
Trying to find a C6 Auto 4X4 for my 79 F150 SuperCab. As some of you know this is a truck I imported from Montana to Australia. She has a 4 speed and a 460 in her but I want to move her back to the C6 Auto (what is was at birth).
So here in Australia the I have been quoted prices that gave me a heart attack for a recon C6, then I found out most guys here actually send them to the US for reconditioning anyway
So is there a place in the US that sells them you can recommend? Shipping will be ok as I will get in put in a container with some other big parts like new bumpers etc.
Cheers
Simon

shrekau...look on transdepot.net the have a new ones for sale for a grand or so.
Jaaron J-Ron Kautz...any 4 speed will work because they have removable bellhousings you will just need to get the right bellhousing for the engine you are planning on putting in. FE for FE and so on.

a lot of guys I know run TCI rebuilds and they are very happy with them. Prices are reasonable. Someone told me ATS is doing c6's too, and I know a lot of sled pullers use their transmissions so I would trust them too. If you need a core let me know, I have 3 C6's of entirely unknown internal condition, all off 78/79 F150's with 351m or 460, married transfers. You could probably pay me to ship them one of mine for the core a lot cheaper than actually shipping your core there all the way from AUS.

thanks to all for responses to date
School boy question here (learning) and my photos are not the best but I am thinking this could be a short shaft in my truck and not married to the transfer case?

If so I am hoping this local C6 may work - eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
thoughts?

I'm not really sure about the long shaft/short shaft stuff...
I was not paying attention when you said you had a supercab 4x4 f150. As I'm sure you are aware, those trucks are oddballs. half ton but leaf sprung front end, basically a 3/4 front end but with the 1/2 ton 5 lug outers. The supercabs also used that weird spacer visible in pic 017, to move the transfer case rearward, I guess.
Really interesting though, because up till now the only trucks I've seen that had that spacer (and again, ONLY on the supercab 4x4's) had NP203 chain driver transfer cases.
Someone who owned one told me that they just used the 2wd transmission and that spacer bolted on to the rear and there was an intermediate shaft that replaced the stock output shaft.
I've never owned one. Weird to me they would change so much for the supercabs.

Thanks Hasteranger and all
Yep the SuperCabs are just different. Do you know if I move to the C6 Auto from the Manual (think it is a T18) does the space remain or go? Trying to find someone local here to help me as I learn.
Apart from the tranny swap to a C6 is there much other parts I need, I already have the column Shift as it was once a Auto.
Cheers
