I did a search and while there was lots of info, none that I needed.
I have a 90 truck and was looking for the wire under the hood for the backup lights. I'm going to put a relay in for my extra backup lights and couldnt find a diagram or someone who said which color it was.
Anyone with some info would be great.
I just didnt want to run a wire from the back to the front and then to the back again.
On my 92 F250 i just hooded up a set of slim LED fog lights under the bumper for aux back up lights. the draw a very small amount of power and havn't blown a fuse yet.
If you want brighter lights you are still going to need to run your power wire back there, so just run that to the back and tap your relay power off of the existing back up lights wire. Relays draw even less power than a set of LED fog lights
I have 2 4in or so round lights just like you see on the backs of tow trucks. I ran the to the tail lights power. They have been on there for about5 years and never blew a fuse. You are only in reverse for a small amount of time so nothing is getting hot. I mounted them under my wheel lift so I could judge better through the backup camera without having to get out 100 times.
I just put a brand new Reese hitch, and new 7pin plug. I have a brand new brake controller, and... I don't mess around.
I'm running wire from brake controller and battery to the back, and am going to have a switch control a relay, that is either automatic (with reverse lights) or on or extra lights off.
I want to know the wire under the hood or dash that is for the backup lights, so I can hook it up the way I prefer.
I'm not sure you will find a switched back up light wire under the hood, you will probably need to pick up switched back up light power at the transmission... If you find the wire to the back up lights under the hood it will most likely be full time power.... not switched......
Most people just tap into the wire for the back up lights at the tail lights. I would just wire them up to a switch though. That way they are not always coming on, and you can easily switch them on when loading or unloading, or hooking up a trailer etc.
Fog lights will work well for this, driving lights won't so much. You want a flood light type of lense.
If your looking for a pair of lights, I have a new set of Pilot / Navigator auxiliary lights that are designed to mount to a reciever hitch. They are new in the package and are never used. Here is a link to them. They sell for about 50 dollars. I'll sell them for $40 with 48 state shipping included. PM me if interested.
I know what you are looking for, but I can't remember what color that wire is. I think brown with pink, but not sure. I have a relay on mine, for two extra lights on the truck. The wire comes out of the tranny, up the harness on the drivers side. Thats where I tapped into it, under the hood. I think its the same color all the way back to the stock reverse lights. If iremember, i'll look tonight when I get back home. I know it shows it in my Haynes book's wiring diagram too. I have mine wired to come on when I put the truck in reverse, or I can turn them on manually for hooking up a trailer. I wish I had a three pole switch, to keep them off when in reverse when I have a trailer on, they light up the front of the trailer and I cant see behind as well. I'm planning on changing that when I have time this winter.
