Shop the junkyards. My whole truck is built from junk parts. Most of them looked pretty nice when I installed them, but I USE my truck for work and play. Check it out in my signature link in the 83 Bronco album.

First you need to have it running good. Doesnt matter how it looks if you cant get anywhere with it.

Second, a good wash and wax goes a long way on the appearance.

Third you can clean up the interior. Wash/scrub/shampoo it till it is clean. You can hide bad spots in the carpet or seats with mats and covers. They are relatively cheap.

Fourth, you can paint the interior plastic pieces as well as any exterior plastic pieces to hide any weathering.

Lastly save up your cash until you can get the nice add ons that you want.

Decide how long you plan on keeping the truck and how much money you are willing to pour into it.

above all else, have fun and enjoy your truck!!

Thankyou very much for the great ideas. My truck runs very well. It only has 123k miles on it. I'll try doing all that. It has one major problem though and that is its bed. It was a farm truck that had a chemical sprayer in the back. the chemicals ate through the inside of the bed. and now it is really rusty. but the out side is fine. I don't know whether to save up and get it rhino lined or try the do it you self stuff, like herculiner. any suggestions. does herculiner or stuff like it work.

I would personally recommend having the bed done with rhino or other like product. It may cost more, but the job will be done right and guaranteed.

I'm also a BIG fan of Rhino, but I wouldn't risk it on an ate-up bed. Get a good one from a junkyard and do it right.

yo,
Ken has an article on Herculiner diy in the Technical Section.

My son was in same sit a few yrs ago w/his 76 F and a perforated bed. He first supprted the bed with angle steel and plates and then cut and screwed ext grade plywood to the bed's interior and painted it black (left-over paint). We even used alum cans (large type from the school's trash bin) to patch holes and make replacement pieces for areas such as the curved door sill area below the door's hinge. A few pop rivets and bondo did the rest on the area.
