I need help or advice with steering stabilizer

I HAVE AN '02 F-250 SD 2X4 WITH NO LIFT THAT I WANT TO INSTALL A STEERING STABILIZER ON. I PREFER A DUAL BUT WILL SETTLE FOR A SINGLE IF THATS THE ONLY OPTION. I'VE CALLED AND TALKED TO ABOUT EVERYBODY I CAN THINK OF (FAB TECH,ROUGH COUNTRY,ROCKY MTN)THAT WOULD HAVE ONE BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK,AND I KNOW I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS WANTED TO ADD THIS ITEM TO THE TRUCK. SO ANY HELP AT ALL ON A KIT THAT WILL WORK, OR HOW TO FAB UP SOME MOUNTING BRACKETS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
AGAIN ITS A '02 2X4, NO LIFT, SD, WITH THE STANDARD BALL JOINT, TIE ROD ENDS ETC

Welcome to FTE. Are you running really wide tires or is something else making you wander all over the road? The 2x4 typically doesn't need a stabilizer, but anything is possible. I'd have to look around under the front of mine to determine the best place to mount one up if I were wanting to do it.

I just got a HD Rancho off of Amazon for $54 that is an OEM replacement. I would go to a junk yard for brackets and positioning info.

Since the 2x4 doesn't have a front axle to attach stuff too, and has different steering linkage, I don't think that will work.

I wound up getting this Rancho one for my 2002 4x4. Since I didn't have the stock bracket or anything I had to get the kit that had the bracket so it cost more.

The only stabilizer kits I have seen for a 4X2 still required some type of suspension lift. I am sure there are ways to rig one up but I am not sure of how effective it may be on a stock 4X2. The other issue you may have might be to further reduce what ground clearance you currently have as the mounting plate may be too low. I am sure you know more about your needs than I do but why are you looking to add a steering stabilizer?

I was told Les Schwab has a kit on the shelf for a reasonable price, but I haven't looked into it myself.

I have used a clamp on bracket style on many 2wd Ford trucks in the past-seems I bought a cheap n-=name way back fro J C Whitney and installed it on my '78 F150 2wd, then also put one on my '79 F250...I would think something with clamp on brackets could be had to fit our S/Ds for less than $100.00 these days......

THANKS.....!!!!!

Hey guys I greatly appreciate all the feedback. I know its a 2x4 and shouldn't be having this problem but i PROMISE you it's about to "wobble" me out of the dang cab. I do have larger rims and tires on it tho.

Where can I find out more info on this "Les Schwab" set up......?

and THANKS..... for any and all input......!

If you have that much wobble, I would think theres something else going wrong that you should address instead of trying to mask it with a stabilizer. Thats just my thinking though.

True. And i deffinitely agree just kinda puzzled at what else to try. I've replaced both tie rod ends, tightend/checked the wheel bearings...

To me if your getting that much wobble it would have to do with the tires, or alignment. Is it in the front, rear, certain speeds? All this can come in to factor. If its only in the front, rotate the tires to see if the problem follows it. If it does, theres something wrong with one of those tires. If it stays in the front then check the alignment specs. If your (drawing a blank) the rod that controls the steering is loose, all you will get is pretty much play in the steering wheel.

I dont know if you rotated the tires or not, but me personally I would start there to see if the problem follows it.

And what kind of wear are you getting on your tires. Most alingment issues show in the tread wear.

And you said you have replaced things, have you checked everything under the front? Bushing, Shock mounths, A-arms, Brake Calipers, Ect. to make sure everything is tight and all bushings are good?

A steering stabilizer is not going to fix something that severe. Stabilizers can hide minute issues but if the front is bouncing all over the place as you have described you have a much larger issue. As others have said, could be wheel, tire, or front end components and you will have to dig and there and find out what is going on. Could even be something as small as one of the wheels throwing all of the balancing weights off the inside rim and now its off-center. Good luck and keep us posted.
