1999 f-350 wipers kills engine

I have a 1999 f-350 4x4 super duty with a 7.3 diesel. A few years back it started couching or shutting off when i turned the wipers on delay or used the washers. If you are under power or accellarating it will cough. If you were not on the accelarator or slowing down it will shut off. You can put it in nuetral and it will crank right back up. If you turn the wipers to full on fast it will run fine as long as you stay on full on (Low or high speed). A friend told me to put a DT466 camshatf positioning sencor in it and use the .010 shim that comes with it and it would fix the problem. He said it was losing signal from the camshaft sencor when the wipers start because they were on the same circiut. The DT 466 positioner would not fit because the angle for the plug was pointed in the wrong direction. I put the .010 shim behind my camshaft sencor and tried that. It was better but still happeneds. I put another .005 shim and now it only shuts off when coasting(slowing down). Has anyone else had this problem?
Can i put more shims behind the sencor (DT 466 only came with 2 shims).
Wife drives truck now and she really does not like not being able to use delay on wipers (rains alot in florida in the summer time). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Just get you a CPS from Ford or if you prefer international, get the T444e model. You shouldn't need to shim the 99 model year. What you describe is a common issue with an aftermarket CPS. Switching to the 466 changes your timing a little and typically isn't worth messing with.

Also be sure the pigtail going to the CPS is not chaffed or worn, or the o-ring that is on the connector that plugs into the CPS is not missing.

OEM is the best when it comes to CPS' on these trucks. However I had great success with a Borg Warner from Orilieys Auto. Many report not so much luck.
