Just picked up a 1966 F250 4x4. Only has 35,255 miles on it right now. Was used primarily for camping so was not used off road much. No terrible rust problems, just some surface haze where the paint has worn thin. It had a seat cover on its whole life so the material looks great. The camper was installed in 1972 with 13,xxx miles on it and then parked in 1984. The area it was in is very dry climate which helped to preserve it. I'm stoked!!

Do not believe the miles shown on the odometer. The odometers of trucks of this vintage read to 99,999.9 .. then return to ZERO!

Except for scant production figures, no other info is available to verify anything on these trucks, as FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the records decades ago.

F26 = F250 4WD

B = 300 1V I-6.

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

831340 = 1966, assembled March 1966.

1966 F250 4WD Styleside Pickup production figures: 3,559 were assembled.

 

Im a little confused. Did you just buy that sweet truck or are you trying to sell it. Either way it looks like a one in a million find a nice 3/4 4x4 all pretty much in original condition.

Hmmm WA residents chiming in, OP also lives there.

Both "Squire" Don & Vic by the way .. know these trucks very well.

 

I did just buy the truck. It's got all of its original Carlite glass still, including the wing windows. I think the headlights are original. They say "Made for FoMoCo" in the center of them. I've got the build sheet, invoice and all the registration paperwork back through new. The service records seem to confirm the mileage, but I don't really care about that as long as it isn't packin' a bunch of rust in the bodywork. I've got a picture of the old couple next to it with the camper on it that I can post. I'm in the Bellevue area.

It's got the 300 6 cylinder. I was hoping for a 352 having been stock, but that's OK given the overall condition. Built in the San Jose, CA plant. Sold at Van Cleve Ford in Eatonville, WA not too far from where I live.

I'm pretty sure it's got the NP 435 trans. Looking for a Warn overdrive that bolts to the back of the 435. Let me know if you know someone.

I already ditched the curtains. They were held in by two of the headliner screws. Mirrors are off and I'm ordering the Carpenter ones that use the original tooling, the little rounds mirrors with the chrome mount sticking through the doors. Luckily they only used those original openings and never drilled any other holes in the doors. Unfortunately they did drill holes for the camper hold down hooks and two where the bumper wraps around the sides of the bed and one for a wire plug below the tailgate for a trailer. I've pulled the rear bumper already. They were always dealer installed on the 4x4 and it's probably the original but if it got smacked in the back it would transfer the force to the sides of the bed so I'll either modify this one or make a new one that doesn't wrap around at all.

3,559 is less than I would have thought or guessed. Can you share the production numbers of the F100 through F250 trucks by body style and drivetrain or point me to those figures? That's fascinating.

240 1V I-6 was standard equipment. Both the 300 I-6 & 352 2V were optional.

TRANS code stamped on Warranty Plate: N = NP435, reverse is down, towards the seat.

ALL rear bumpers were optional thru 1979! Ford did not offer a step bumper until 1967, and this ain't it.

Has an aftermarket 'diamond plate' step bumper, most likely dealer installed, possibly made by the Fey Bumper Co., the largest supplier of step bumpers on the West Coast.

Chrome round mirrors look nice, but rearward vision severely limited with 5" hooded mirror head.

I've listed ALL the 1961/66 F100/350 production figures multiple times, would prefer not to do it again. As I said, the figures are scant.

There is no breakdown as to how many came with what engine, trans, body types, Custom or Standard Cabs...or anything else. Some years, 2WD figures lumped together with 4WD figures.

But all is not lost, Elliott Bay Books may have a copy and I believe so does "Squire" Don. Elliott Bay has moved from Pioneer Square.

The mirrors that were on it were not terrible, but they are pretty rusty, especially the passenger side one. Do you think they are aftermarket? Probably installed for use with the camper. They had professional looking brackets, not homemade if I had to guess. But, they don't seem like any of the mirrors that were available at least from what I can find.

 

ALL outside rear view mirrors were optional thru 1966 (excepting '65/66 Camper Specials). Only the L/H el cheapo 1967 Passenger Car mirror was standard equipment thru 1979 (excepting Camper Specials).

All outside mirrors were installed by the dealers. FoMoCo didn't install 'em, cuz if the customer wanted something else, the holes in the doors would have to be filled in and the doors spot painted.

Telescopic mirrors on your truck appear to be genuine Ford, mirror heads may have FoMoCo in script stamped on them. Do NOT throw them away!

Ford offered three types of optional painted telescopic mirrors that fit in the door slots. Other two types have either one or two 3rd steady-rest arms.

Post 7 = I listed all the available (scant ) 1966 F250 4WD production figures.

And do not throw away the step bumper, it's almost as hard to find as Jimmy Hoffa.

Someone that has 1957/60 F100/350 Styleside or the same Styleside beds on 1961/66 F100/350's (called the "wrong bed" because the bed lines don't match the cab lines) will want the little charmer.

 

I'm re-reading your posts so am catching the extra details as you add them for the most part (I hope). I guess the mirrors could be the

2) C3TZ-17696-C (replaced: C1TB-17696-B, C1TB-17696-F) .. Painted Non-Telescoping Type-5" x 8" Rectangular Mirror Head (C1TZ-17723-G replaced C1TZ-17723-C).

That description sounds about right. I'll look closer when I get home tonight.

This has the original Dana 44 front axle with the 4.55 ratio. The front hubs are some old units that don't have any branding visible on them. They spin 360 degrees both directions and I can't tell where lock or free is, although they do get tight for two portions of the circle, they seem prone to popping out of lock. I'd love to replace these with some Warn hubs. But, I'm not positive which one of two models would be correct.

Also, in case it was buried up above in another post I'm looking for a Warn overdrive for the NP-435 that bolts to the back of the tranny. I know I'll have to have my driveshaft shortened some.

Chihuahua's: Yip yip yip yip and yip yip yip some more. Are very protective of owners. First MIL had one, she was holding it in her lap, I extended my hand to pet it, it took a big chunk oughhta my finger.

I prefer something more benign, have 5 Basset Hounds. No one in their right mind wants any!

 

I pretty much trained them to not be so bad with the yips. They are great watch dogs, though, at least for the alert. Not so much for the fear factor...
