Flathead 8BA engine races at full throttle when started
Hello, I recently restored a 49 F1 flathead 8BA. I installed a new wire harness and made sure all wiring was correct with positive ground now for some reason when I start the engine is races at full throttle when started without pressing on the gas. Any idea why now when it starts it would race at full speed without pressing the gas? I have taken the carb cover off and cleaned the jets again but it didn't help. Could this be a wiring issue or is it an issue with some internal component in the carb? Thanks for your help!

So I think I straightened out my radiator clearance issue. I took an extra radiator saddle that I had and cut the mounting brackets and cross bar off and tacked it to my good radiator saddle. This moved the radiator forward so that now I have about 3.5 inches of clearance between the water pump and radiator. This ended up being a pretty clean set up since it uses only stock parts. Now i just need to find a v8 hood air deflector because my 6 cylinder one comes down right on top of the radiator.

So, finally back at it! Today I started getting the front fenders fixed. The drivers side upper fender doesnt need any rust work, as i bought one already fixed a few months ago for pretty cheap. The lower fenders that i bought aren't as nice as i originally thought. The drivers side was hit, apparently many years ago. I found a big patch of lead covering up a big gash in it. That wouldn't have been to bad, but that damage also made the panel pretty misshapen. I decided just to finish the lower fender i started a few years ago. I am using the doubler from the one i bought, since that is solid and the fender i bought at least gives me a template to make a patch panel, since my original fender was pretty much gone in that spot. The new fender would have needed metal replaced in the same spot anyway.
This is the new fender.

And the start of fixing the old fender.
My dad also helped me set up the tig for his big miller welder. Learned a lot in just the bit of time i spent on it. Welds don't look too bad for about half hours worth of practice!

Continued work on the fender this afternoon. I tried the tig for these patches, and i'll tell you, i should have tried it a long time ago. The tacks don't require very much filler wire at all, so they will not need very much grinding at all! Still have to practice keeping the tungsten out of the puddle though.
