largest rear gas tank option?

I can literally watch my fuel guage move when I am towing with my F-250 460. I am not complaining about the fuel economy but I am wondering what the largest tank option is for the rear.

I have read multiple writeups on installing the 37 gallon ford bronco tank, and that sounds like a pretty straight forward option. Would just like to know if there are some larger tank options that fit between the frame rails without to much modifications.

I don't mind losing room for the spare tire, as I can't seem to fit my spare up there anyways as the class five hitch gets in the way of the 33 inch tire. I would prefer not to run a auxiliary tank in the bed and also dont want to spend big money on a custom tank.

Thanks,

Borrowed a friends F-250 with a 460, you can definitely watch the gas needle move as you tow.

I have one of these, sitting in my garage waiting to go in. It's intended for an older model, and it comes with a pickup tube/float extension. That stuff isn't going to work for an FI truck, so I'm still not sure how I'm going to make this work... ideas Brad?

I think this is the biggest currently available but I have seen aftermarket 40 gallon tanks for the rear. Haven't seen one in a while and it's only a whopping 2 gallons anyway.

When I moved down with my 460 I averaged a whopping 5mpg over a 1200 mile trip, but there were a lot of mountain passes to go over. I really wanna get a powerstroke.

Why wouldn't it work with EFI, they are the same tank

Oh I agree on that part. Granted I haven't looked into it much, but it's the sending unit I'm talking about. Thinking of how I'm going to get the plastic housing with the fuel pump/float to the bottom of the deeper tank, and have the float read correctly.

Just finished installing a 38 gallon replacement tank is the manufacture of tank here is a link to where I purchased it New Fuel Tank Gas Silver F150 Truck F250 F350 38 Gallons Ford F-150 F-250 F-350 | eBay. Mine is a 1996 F250 crew cab short box 4x4 with the gas pig 460, works good. I plan on doing a 12v Cummins conversion next year. Thats part of the reason for this tank and the main reason was old one was leaking so why not go bigger for about same price. I have a post here on the forum.
