over tight oil drain plug

On my 12, it uses the composite oil pan and drain plug which I liked till now. The first oil change at dealer, no leaks, but second oil change drain plug has slight leak. Is it possible to over tighten these plastic pugs as they snap into place? why else would plug have oil leak?

The plastic plug has a o-ring. During heat cycles a o-ring tends to loose a little bit of its memory and a slight leak could occur. Personally I change the o-ring with every oil change.

It is around $6 for a new plug. I didn't have any issues until the 3rd change, then just a little seepage that has stopped. I picked up a plug for the next change.

This is somewhat odd that the the plug is leaking.....I have 15 oil changes on my truck...I do them all myself and it's the factory plug / o - ring.....I have a extra plug / o- ring ....in the glovebox just incase of issues with oil changes......I'am sure that the o - ring can be replaced.....good luck and keep us informed.

I got mine at the dealership. Just go in and they them what you have or give them your VIN # and they can look it up. I don't have the part number. The plug comes with the o-ring.

The dealer replaced the plug without losing much oil. Took old out and quickly replaced new and wiped down. So far no leaks. Only thing noticed, is new yellow plug doesn't have the metal clips on each end of plug.

Hmm, my plug does not have metal clips either, just plastic tabs that hit the "home" position when it's turned enough.

When I do my oil changes I just use my fingers to tighten and loosen that plug. Never needed a wrench.
