I've heard mixed things about it. Hotrodders.com has a bunch of threads on it. I'm going to wire wheel mine, scrub it down with Ospho and coat with a bed liner. I've used this method before.

Right on. I wanted to do the bedliner, but was told I needed to get it blasted down to bare metal and then they would spray it in...be $800-$1000 after all is said and done. Too much I think.

Wire wheel and the 2 quarts of rustoleum 'rusty metal primer' brushed on heavy. Then finish color of your choice. Painted the floorboards of a '54 gmc like this in 1978 and I got it back from the '78 purchaser in 2011 and it hadn't changed one single bit. It was used often and stored outdoors, not under cover the entire time.

I would also give a thumbs up for the Rusty Metal Primer, good stuff.

POR 15

I have used POR 15 on several products, if u buy the kit it comes with cleaner, prep and then the POR 15 paint, you can get diff colors and flat or gloss, and after you POR 15 you can spray in bed liner yourself!!

I got the spray in bed liner from Home Depot, used it on a jeep as well, very durable

Or just leave the POR 15 it is very durable

Hey Blacksnake, that's an amazing bed you have there. Nice job! Was it dented, and you fixed it, or did it survive in that condition?

junkyard

Truth be told that is a Chevy bed floor and two Chevy wheel wells mated together on each side, this was the best floor we could find at the junkyard. I needed to raise my bed floor 4 inches so a "new" bed floor made sense, and we spied those wheel wells while we were there so we scooped those up too. We also added a double wall (bead rolled) while we were at it

Isn't it interesting that a guy that mixes and matches truck brands is unknowingly drawn to another truck that is comprised of multiple manufactures? It must be fate, some people are just born that way, I give up! Let me go back into the over taxed hills of NY and forget that I ever saw any of this!

huh?

Not really sure how to take that last comment, not sure the original poster has any mix of parts like my truck? And I am not one to banter on forums, I like them too much and get too much enjoyment from looking at everybodys projects.

maybe its me takin it the wrong way and it was a joke.

But just for info I bleed blue, never owned anything that wasnt lincoln ford or mercury........but I inherited this truck from a master fabricator who needed money. He already raised the bed 4 inches and di it masterfully with a chevy bed floor and wheel wells.

Doesnt bother me the truck still has a ford motor and Ford truck body....

Like I said maybe its me, lol

Looks like I need to wire wheel it and choose between rustoleum or por 15. Any other insight/tips?

I wire wheeled and then used POR 15 on my bed and am very happy so far. This stuff is no joke when it comes to skin protection. I got a speck of it on my face and it took two weeks to come off.

mine is in pretty good shape, and it's a stepside. the only rot is on the lips on the bed sides at the bottom. I have a small hand sand blaster I'm going to use on them and then por-15 or equivilent then see if I can get it rino-lined. those had blasters work pretty good.

Blacksnake, Spurredon was referring to me, and my comment. It is considered a high compliment around here if that old carmudgeon even acknowledges a post! I have a '59 F350 that I built from mostly junkyard parts, many of them not ford. Cummins engine, chevy transmission, a few dodge parts in the driveline. Spur is a bit of a 'purist' and has taken to teasing me about the 'frankentruck'. That's when I knew I was starting to fit in around here. He has no mean intent, you should be honored! As for the banter, I wouldn't hang around here without it. Just my .02 G'B' (Banter) SISSON
