F-550 with a 0.88 thick frame???
Hello,
while i was trying to find out weather or not the older 4-corner-leaf spring F-550 used an open c- channel frame front to rear or combined a boxed front with an open c end like the modern day F-550 does, i found this old pdf:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...essd_03abb.pdf
If you scroll it down to page 59 you will finde the data of the old frames, nothing about open c or boxed, but height, width and thickness of the two frame rails, just like you'll find the modern data on page 73 in this file:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...sisCabs_SB.pdf
As you can see, there was not much to change in the last 9 years, its always 7.5x2.74 in the dimensions when it comes to the big F-550, but the thickness, there's something really diffrent.
Nowadays, ANY F-550 uses the 0.60 thickness, which is only correct for the doubled middle part, where ford combines 0.320 and 0.280 sheets together.
Back in 2003, only wheelbases above 164 got that double sheet, expect for the 19000lb version which got it at 164.
Sadly the 19000lb version was only availbable 4x2, which could be changed of course.
But what about the 19000lb version with the long 200.8" wheelbase?? 0.88 material thickness? WTF? Is that a triple frame?? And how much of the frame is that thick? Only the wheelbase or a part of the wheelbase? It seems to start at the back of the cab anyway.
Did anyone ever see such a truck, an 19000lb 200" wheelbase F-550?
Greetings
