Seems like Ford Motor Company would want to do a commercial about their adventure, Ford tough all these years later.....just don't let them hear the F-2 idle!...or look underneath at the diff seal!!
I can see Bob talking to Mike Rowe in front of a big red barn with green corn fields in the background.......SUPERSTAR!!!!

In all honesty and sincerity, everyone should take a minute, and think about this event that took place. What Doc did as host, and what the others did to pitch in, share laughs, and all the fun enjoyed, did not have to happen. It was volunteered by everyone to make it what it was and is!
This seems a rarity in today's world. And quite honestly, I don't know why that is. It's proof that there's still GOOD people out there still doing GREAT things.

Too bad that someone didn't get video of the fire dance. Then we could definitely claim a connection to Woodstock... or Burning Man!

Bob just called me! He's in central Illinois heading toward Jeff's house. I don't mean to keep talking about the same subject, but what he's doing is becoming an FTE legend. Think about it, old farmers back in 1949 probably wouldn't have attempted that long of a trip with a brand-new F-2!! They would have chosen some old car instead. That truck was designed and geared to go to the feed store and back home!! And here is Bob driving that thing halfway across the country 63 years later!!! No A/C. Six volt headlights. Wipers not working. I climbed up under it while he was here--that suspension is not built for comfort. And I can tell you firsthand that the big mountain he crossed after getting lost here in KY is a doozy! It makes the mountain we climbed on the cruise look like a flat parking lot in comparison. Keep truckin' Bob.
We ought to send him a big red pair of these for the back of that truck. They are well deserved!!! Since the women and children might be watching, I'll just post the link and let you guys look for yourselves.

I haven't heard from them, but the truck sure did sound good when leaving our place! I still can't believe he stopped here! What a cool guy!
Thanks again Bob! and Michelle! I wonder if they had to go in to the Chiropractor from riding in the truck so far?
The Truck piddled a little oil spot in the drive. I was thinking I might mark it up with a paint stick! "Bob's truck was here"
They said that if anything happened between here and home, there son??? could bring a car trailer down. But I gotta believe the ole truck was doin fine!

Hi everyone
Just pulled in. I want to join everyone else in thanking DOC for the great time. My wife and I enjoyed meeting all the great people at Truckstock. It was a truly wonderful thing DOC did, allowing all of these unknown people come to his home. He trusted a group of "computer friends" to invade his home and trusted everyone with his most prized possessions, his family and personal space. I hope we lived up to his expectations. I know he exceeded mine in every way. He has a lovely place and a wonderful family. Many of his friends came and they all accepted us as friends. I really would like to thank him and all the people attending for making me and my wife feel welcome. It was a unforgettable experience. One I hopefully can relive next year. It was really a wonderful time.

OK guys, the answer to the big question, yes, we are finally home!!
Pulled into the driveway about 5:30 CST tonight. Although I know the F-2 is nothing but an amalgamation of metal, rubber, plastic and glass I gave it a gentle pat and a "Thank you" for getting my wife and myself safely to Truckstock and back. In the 17+ years I've been driving it it has never let me down. I has come through when my modern daily drivers have left me down. I have to admit that I am amazed that this truck that I had pulled from the side of my parents driveway after years of neglect, tearing it apart down to the frame and building it back up has been so dependable.
Now that I'm back to my home keyboard I am able to type away like a mad man. I just can't do much with dinky keypad on my I-Phone.
There seems to be a few of us willing to step up and continue the torch for this event. I know I would like to host it next year so our northern member are more able to attend.
There was a mini swap. I would have brought some parts to sell but I had the back of my truck really packed tight. One of the items I did bring was a spare carb and rebuild kit. I had intended on rebuilding this carb before leaving but just ran out of time. Ross was kind enough to help me and find the problem I had with the idle. We swapped the bottom of the carb and everything was good. Thanks again Ross, you're my hero.
The F-2 can be a bit of a challenge to drive with the heavy four speed. It rides like a buckboard but I've grown to love the ride, you just have to anticipate the bumps and lift yourself off the seat a little. The tranny can be fun to shift up but the real challenge is shifting down. I did a lot of that while going up the mountains. I had to shift from 4th to 3rd and some times 2nd just to get to the top.
You just have to know how to treat her. The truck can be stubborn but once you have it figured out you can have about a 90% success rate in shifting. I think of it as a built in anti-theft device. By the time time a truck thief gets it going I'll be able to walk up and pull the sorry piece of human debris out of the truck.
You really have to give Doc's wife Ami a big round of applause. Like my wife she never sat down, at least I can't remember her sitting for more than five minutes. She was also taking care of the girls. Both my wife and I felt we may have been straining our stay but Ami always had a smile and always made us feel like she wanted us to be there. She was a great host. Both Ami and Shane went way, way beyond what was necessary.
Believe me, it was very interesting going down that mountain. I had to sit a few minutes after I got to the bottom.
Guys, my ears were tuned into the sounds the truck was making every inch of the trip. The slightest odd noise got my attention. In Illinois we hit a few roads that sent some strange noise through the bias plys I have on the truck. When I first heard them I got a little nervous until I hit another type of pavement. One section have grooves running the length of the road and the truck started acting squirrly but straightened out when I got to smoother pavement. Another had grooves running from side to side and made the truck grumble, like something was going bad under the truck. The truck itself makes enough noise when it's doing 45 mph or more.
So did we. I think you and I could have talked truck for another couple of hours at least. Too bad one of us had to go to work in the morning
I don't know, after reading all of the posts about "Betsy" I think I just might have to hire an agent for her
I asked my wife about doing a CA run, answer was, "Ah, don't think so." I'll have to work on her.
I think I'll post a show post about the trip so everyone who attended knows exactly how it all went. It was an adventure.

There's one more thing that I want to say I noticed during this event.
Saturday the guys with trucks all went on a cruise and as we gone a ways down the road Shane was in the lead truck and stopped to make sure everyone was present and accounted for. I was the second truck behind him and could clearly see him looking out the small back window of his truck. The look on his face was astounding. He looked like the proverbial kid in the candy store. His face had this look of pride and accomplishment. That will be the one image that I'll remember about this event forever. Maybe I'm wrong, but man it sure looked that way to me.

I have been home recovering from my surgery for 11 days now. I have been following this post and the pictures, and I am sick that I had to miss this event. I wanted, from the very beginning, to be at Truckstock and missing it has really depressed me.
I know that from the very beginning Doc had intended for this event to take place at his home ONCE, and then move around the country. I know that this isn't fair to Doc, but I am sure I am not alone in hoping that he will give us folks that were forced to miss it, one more chance and host Truckstock again at his home in 2013.

I was still on my Truckstock high until the alarm went off this morning then the reality of my post-Truckstock world set in. I owe I owe so back to work I go.
Doc mentioned Super Bob and his stock F2. Remember it has non-synchro trans which makes his trip even more amazing in my opinion. I'll just go ahead and nominate Bob and Michelle for the Truckstock Haul (bad spelling intended) of Fame. I move we waive the usual five year waiting period.

LOL. Yeah that was pretty bad. No matter if I double, triple or quadruple clutched, the dang thing would NOT go into any gear. I thought I was gonna push the clutch pedal through the fire wall. He finally just walked over and slammed it down into reverse. After that, it wasn't too bad. But I can say that I have driven Bob's famous red truck.

That truck is a Bonus Built celebrity! I wonder if it can autograph my truck's headlights?
Bob, now that you've gone to KY in your truck, how about making it to California again, but this time with the truck?
We should have started a "The travels of Bob and his red truck - A Truckstock 2012 Legend" thread.

I'll get it up on the lift as soon as I get the time. I'm sure the brakes will have to be replaced. I was going to change them before I left but according to the shop manual I had plenty of shoe left but after going up and down the mountains I'd be surprised if they don't need to be replaced. I'll also try to flush the fluid just to be safe. The brakes got pretty hot two times I went up and down the mountain Doc mentioned.

Ain't going to happen. I just spent an hour typing something up and it all got wiped out when I opened a link in a new email.
There's a way to open a new browser window for every email link, I did it on my shop computer, but can't remember what I did and haven't been able to do it on my new home computer.
I might try again tomorrow but right now I have to get to bed. I am just too tired to screw with it.
