my hood got damaged on the way home from the body shop when the tow truck driver didnt strap it down and now i need to replace it. any ideas the best place to do that at?
Honestly the only thing to do is find another truck someone is parting out.Look on ebay and craigslist. I had a similar problem and got lucky, a member here knew of a hood nearby and I was able to buy it from him, which really saved me a lot of trouble because they are kinda hard to find depending on where you live.
First thing for you to know if you paid him for the tow, he is responsible for any damages that occurred while in his possession.
It does not matter if he tells you different. If he did it as a favor he may not be. He has to have liability insurance to operate. You can insist he get you another hood. Accept no less.

Welcome to FTE
You should have listed the location where you live.
I looked at your "About Me" profile, sez NJ. But some members are unaware this is the way to find this out, if not listed at the upper right corner of the page.
This is a HUGE hood and will have to be shipped by truck, as it's too large to ship by greydog or UPS.
Depending on where the hood is located, the cost to ship the puppy to NJ could be more than you paid for it!
Where was the hood located when it was damaged? On the truck and it flew up and backwards (possibly hitting the roof)? Or bouncing around in the bed or did it fly out of the bed?

If had not already done so, welcome to FTE!! Suggest take the hood back to the body shop and see if it can be repaired. Or check 2-3 other reputable body shops with experience repairing vintage vehicles. The original would have to spindled and mutilated for it not to be able to be repaired, seen a good body man work miracles. If decide to have repaired, suggest body person drill relief holes on the underside lip of the hood. Anyhow, food for thought?
Depending on where the damage on your hood is, I've got a hood for a 66 with some damage on the passenger side. You could probably cut/weld from your existing hood and repair it without too much trouble. I'll let it go for real cheap, but if you're in NJ that probably doesn't help you out.
