i want headers! no more manifolds

ive got a 2002 f 250 4x4 5.4l. my manifold gaskets are leaking and i want to put a set of headers on. i found some by gibson but i dont want to spend $600. all the other headers i can find are for the same year and same engine but only a f-150. will they still fit my truck without any mods? thanks

I was told by a guy that tried using the f-150 manifolds on his super duty and it would not fit. It would hit on something I don't remember what, it's been a few years.

You need manifolds for the Super Duty with the 5.4l. There are no long tube headers available so you are stuff with short tube headers.

Autoanything has the Gibson stainless shorty headers for under $500 shipped. Just clean the headers and give them a coat of 2000 degree ceramic header paint. The ceramic coatings don't last anyway, they flake and peel off.

You can get cheapy headers on Ebay but they usually on last a few years at the most before they need replaced. I believe Ford used to make a shorty header but they discontinued them some years ago.

Have you considered replacing the stock y-pipe with the better flowing SPD one? If not you should check it out. I think that mod gives the most improvement on these gas SD's.

Here's a link to my writeup from when I installed headers & y-pipe....

And, here's a few comparison pics of the y-pipes....

Good Pacesetters? Never heard of such a thing....
Every one I've fussed with either didn't fit right, rusted out, warped, leaked, etc etc etc. Bottom line, gone within 50K miles.

Valuable advice for life: You get what you pay for.

go with the stainless Gibson headers! I bought mine in 2006 and they are awesome! My passenger side ball flange where the y-pipe boltsto for some reason started to leak afewmonths back, i was certain it was a header gasket but i was wrong. Called Gibson and within fiveminutes i had a free replacement header shipped out to me! Got it three days later installed it andim tick free again, you cant ask for any better warrenty then that! I just sent back the original passenger header and emailed Gibson and Brian called meback within an hour just to say he got the email and how the new header worked out. Aint no cheap 200 dollar header company going to giveyou better service then Gibson can, and the stainless looks almost brand new still some very small areas od surface rusting but a little steel wool would remove it but hey Gibson gives you a LIFETIME WRRENTY

They must use a lower grade stainless (a grade of stainless that rusts).

i am also looking at the gibson headers for a replacement for stock manifolds. pretty much no reason for me to look elsewhere.

and i agree about the y pipe, without a doubt the biggest improvement in power ive done to my truck so far. 10 times more noticeable than the tuner

The 400 series stainless rusts, the ceramic paint helps to keep the heat in also. Even a 300 series stainless header discolors and can look like crap over time. Painting them helps to make them look nice and can be touched up plus the heat benefits.

I see. I am used to 304 which takes a long long time to rust if at all. Also the heat will not effect much above 10 - 15 or so mph. Cool air floods the engine bay above those speeds.

This is interesting. About the y pipe that is. I need to do this mod. Anyone dyno'd before and after the y pipe conversion?

Heat rises. You will see reduced temps with header coating. Extensive heat reduction with header wrapping.
