Well guys I think it time for a BTS or a JW don’t ya think?... this all started last night cruising down the highway and at 70 mph got a really bad vibration and next thing I knew I heard a loud pop followed by a lot grinding. Pulled over and found this! Cracked a complete circle around the bell housing!

Yea, what caused that? Did the torque conver bolts un-torque, flywheel start to fly?

Unsure at this point on what caused it. The inspection plate bolts won't come out lol

I hear BTS is booked till at least sometime in Sept, if not later. Wouldn't hurt to verify, but it sounds like if you need it now, John Woods, Bill at RacerX, or David at Diesel Innovations might be the places to look.

I'm still tryin to figure out what I'm gonna do. I can get a stock replacement at ford for 2000, or I can get a built one for 5000. Tough one

Ford also sells an HD version and you can put an upgraded converter on it as another upgrade. If you go with Ford, at least get the HD version.

Definitely get the upgraded version with an upgraded torque converter. Any idea how this happened Cody? I broke out a few trannys in an old service truck I used to own, and I figured out it was the turn on to my road that did it. The road goes up steep as you turn onto my road, and it twists the body so much that it literally broke the bellhousing all the way around. It cost me 3 trannys before I figured it out! (expensive!)

I just had a Ford reman E4OD installed in my 97, and it isn't near as good as the one that was rebuilt by the guys at the Tranny Shop that used to be in Morningview, KY. I think John is working out of his garage in Covington, but I don't know for sure. I would have him rebuild one again in a heartbeat.

Looks to me like the flexplate broke around the bolts that mount it to the crank and it let go, catastrophically.

I've been real happy with mine - zero issues. It took some input from Mark for Jody to get the shifts right, but Jody's got it now. I imagine PHP has the tunes for the HD4R100.

Also remember that since the case is junk, the core return will probably not be a factor. That maybe a question you ask before deciding what to do. I have the HD4R100 and have been happy with it!

Some shops do carry spare BTS transmissions in stock. In my area there is a guy that usually has one on the shelf. You may ask around or call BTS and ask if anyone in your area is a reseller for them.

I will call around and ask. I know the manager at the local ford dealer and he never charges me a core charge anyway. About how much does the HD4R100 run ?
