Having an intermittent strange sound coming from the fuel pump from its normal whine at start up to a gurgling sound almost like you are blowing back through the fuel line back into the tank. Going on a 300 mile trip, should I hold off?
Shouldn't be able to hear anything really...My pump would do that trying to start after a hot soak..Once they start to whine its time to think about changing them..IMO
It only whines for a second or two like if you turn the key to the on position
but don't start it as if to pressurize the system,it's done it since I've owned
it.But this noise is different
I get the gurgling noise on hot soak startup...Its a sign the pump isn't priming. Usually gets worse with age...I just replaced one in one of my vans. I used a denso pump absolutely no noise with key on unless you are under the van.
The problem isn't Carter aftermarket pumps, the problem is that you can't get Carter pumps anymore, they are relabeled Airtex pump. There was an excellent article recently which seems to suggest a Denso pump is a good replacement.
When the pumps start making strange noises, they are shot.
