Turning off the Tire Pressure Monitoring Sys

Just replaced the tires and wheels on my 2005 EB Explorer. Purchased a set of Better aluminum wheels and tires on Craigslist. Problem is old ones had TPMS and new ones don't. I will put the sensors on the new wheels when the tires wear out, but don't feel like the expense until I need new tires. Is there an easy way to turn the system off so I dont get the message everytime I start the vehicle?

Thanks

Black tape over the light. You cannot disable it. It's a safety feature.

I looked at the way to disable it on my brand x truck. You have to get into the wiring harness to disable it there, I suppose it's similar on a Ford.

Since you plan to install the sensors at a future date, I'd go with the black tape option for now.

You could deflate the tires, break the bead and install the pressure monitors in your driveway, cost zero $$$$, and 15 min a wheel.... Philip

Easiest? Go to a tire store. You may need them rebalanced with the sensors anyway.

Otherwise, I used a piece of 2x6 and a jack to break the bead on a tire. Wasn't easy. You put it under your frame or trailer hitch and jack the vehicle up with the tire under it. Watch it for slippage.

I wouldn't do it that way again, now that I have my handy Harbor Freight tire changer with bead-breaker/wheel scratcher attachment.

I threw away the lead weights yrs ago.

Install 4-6oz of beads (tire dependent) and never think of balancing again.... Philip

Those the beads you put in the tire? Do they play well with TPMS sensors?
