Rusty Coolant and broken nipple

Okay going through my 1994 F150 after purchase last weekend.

Decided to replace a few crusty hoses around the throttle body.

Onces removed nipple number 1 was so rusty I had to dremel off
the worst of it. Now don't know if I have enough to attach the hose with out
leaking.

This coolant hose nipple is press fit into the top of the throttle body.

Can it be repaired or do I have enough to trust the connection?

Nipple 2, 3 , and 4 are rusty too but still usable.<p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/61679169@N06/7616180646/" title="throttle body1 by topfile, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8020/7616180646_3e5059a43b.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="throttle body1"></a>

Time to purchase some new hose's and clamps.

You should be good to go after that.

Those small hoses don't usually come perfectly fit when buying them new. You will probably have to trim them down so they will fit.

Other then that go to a junk yard and find the parts you need to replace the ones you broke.

You can also purchase Performance Throttle Body.

Got the new hoses and clamps. Talked to the counter guy at the local Advance store and he said he sees this all the time. Suggested I flush the system and then use Peak Rust Inhibitor and Sealer. It should have less than 20 pounds of pressure behind the fitting he thought it'd be no problem.

With a little dielectric grease from the tune-up I was able to get the new hose to slide all the way through the bend to seat directly at the throttle body.

I had him price a throttle body while I was there, but they didn't have one. Thanks for your BBK find, I'll keep it in mind. He did find a throttle plate/spacer
for $120 that suppose to change the air vortex efficiency and add Horsepower.

Complete and utter waste of time, effort and hard earned $$$....

That same money would be able to cover the cost of a clean JY Throttle Body...

Or something a little more usefull...

Stay away from those gimmicks...

I had those TB nipples crumble on my truck, I used hydraulic brake line material to make new nipples and then JB welded them into place, I haven't had a single leak with my 'fix'.

Great idea! I suppose you were able to overlap the material with larger tube?

For now mine are holding with no further repair. If they fail I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!

Agreed. I tried one on a Tacoma I owned. The only thing it did was set off the check engine light. Returned it and got my money back.

If it leaks just bypass them or get a JY TB. Ebay might have one.

The BBK TB while nice is a waste on a stock or near stock engine.

Those TB spacers are indeed good for only a paper weight.

I think I've found the ultimate fix...

Pull out the press fitted nipple in the top of the Throttle Body and replace with a NPT 1/4" threaded brass barb with 3/8" male end.

Use a 7/16" drill bit to open the hole and use a 1/4" NPT thread tap to cut threads in the hole you just created. NPT threads are tapered to create a better seal. This item can be found at a plumbing supply or some hardware stores. Use clear grease to lubricate the bit while cutting.

A wrench can be used to turn the tap. Cut a quarter turn forward then back up to clear the threads, another quarter turn forward then back up. Take your time and get it in there straight. Wrap the fitting with Teflon (white) thread sealant tape before assembly. Then simply install in the TB and slip the hose on.

I'll go there when the nipple completely fails I suppose. Others here have tried this and it works as I understand.

Verify all sizes stated for your application!

No, I drilled out the remaining original nipple from the TB and pressed/JB welded the hydraulic line into the bores.

Okay, that sounds like the my most recent post #12, in that you drilled out the remaining portion of the nipple. Instead of tapping it you successfully used JB weld to seat the nipple into the TB. Thanks for the clarification.
