tranny/computer problem
I am having shifting problems with my 2001 F-150 4.6 automatic. my friend, ( a tranny guy) put his analizer on the thing and we drove. It showed that I need to Have Ford Clean the computer, however when I called one dealer, they said $70.00 and it takes 2 hours. The second place said $140.00 But he said to try taking the negative post loose from the battery for 15 minutes and then hook it back up and drive normally and it would fix itself. Now I am a little confused. Anybody know the, "real deal" here?

NOT as funny to me as you might think. When I'm on here it's for a reason, not to play stupid games. I guess I should have made that clear.
If I want to play games and view icons, I will go to twitter and deal with THOSE idiots. I have a real problem and don't want the grief so thanks but please just move on, I will wait for a HELPFUL answer!!!

VERY common term actually!
I heard it from 2 dealerships!
One has been around since the
50s, and the other since the 70S.

Flashing a computer means to reprogram it, usually with updated software to correct identified issues having to do with calibrations . Dealers have that equipment.
There's no such thing as "cleaning" a car's computer. If a dealer says that, have him produce the factory workshop manual and show it to you.
Removing the battery negative post will reset the computer's non-volatile memory and will reset all values back to factory default. It will also reset your clock and radio. Once reconnected and driven, the computer will relearn optimal control values and will self adjust for best performance of the engine and the transmission.

We never got that far. I did not explain every single word said. I never said that was all the scanner said. My problem is with people on this site that think their,
"STUPID" jokes are funny. If I want stupid jokes, I will go to a joke site. I thought we were adults trying to help one another. I don't need to rehash this crap yet again. Obviously some of you on this site think your a little above the rest...(You are NOT)! I went to a friendlier site, and got the info I needed, and made the repairs, (without stupid jokes that only serve some peoples egos!) sometimes you just stumble upon idiots on these sites that just wait to jump on a misspelling or some crap like that. I'm done. Don't respond.......

This was a demenstration of ignerance for which the poster chooses to hide behind with arguing and getting personal with others to cover it up and not admitting it when his info is corrected for him.
