Been running John Deere engine oil since ive had my truck, gonna switch coolant when i get time (and motivation). Anybody else in the same boat? John Deere states 500 hour life to the engine oil, far more than i ever put on in 5,000 miles.

 

Keep an eye out for oil aeration.

The John Deere fluids are good, i forgot who makes them though.

Some of the diesel oils will get aerated in our trucks from the HEUI system.

After you've ran it for a while, stop and pull the dipstick, if there are bubbles on the dipstick, thats what I'm talking about. Means there is air in your oil. You dont want that.

If your getting good oil analysis results and its running good, keep doing what works for you.

 

Ill check it tomorrow just out of curiousity, i would assume that by now i wouldve done some pretty noticable damage if there was aeration. Everyone in my family runs John Deere in our Powerstrokes since we have a bulk oil set up in our farm's shop.

 

Also take a look and see if it meets Caterpillar ECF-3. Since Cat is the one who designed the HEUI system, I'd want an oil that meets their specs as well.
