Tires for Expy when pulling a trialer
I have a '06 Expy 4x4 with the 5.4 in it. Currently it has on it P265/70 R17's on it. I need to get new tires for it and we are also planning on getting a 25' to 28' travel trailer to be pulled by the Expy. My question is, is it ok to stay with the "P" (Passenger) tires or should I go with a "LT" (Light Truck) tire. What are the pros and cons of going to a LT tire. Thanks for you time.

Going with an LT tire will give you a stiffer sidewall. The tire will have more load carrying capacity and less side to side movement. Conversely you will have a rougher ride. Just faced that question on my Expedition and decided to stick with the p series tires as I have not had any problems in the past with the loads I tow (up to #7000).

The original contis were crap, soft as heck. I put on General Grabber HTS LT tires (10 ply) and it trailered beautifully, even with 8,000lbs behind it, but it was definitely a rougher road. About 1,000 miles ago I put on new Michelin LTX MS/2 passenger SUV tires which are 6 ply. They trailer just slightly worse than the grabbers but the ride is way way better!. I just air them up a bit more when I put the trailer on and it all was smooth sailing, 700 miles with 7,200lbs. Wonderful tires .
