Just the basic spin on fuel filter last time I changed my stock filter there was what looked like sand and black crud in the bottom of the fuel bowl. I know it's not going into the injectors because of the stock filter but wouldn't think it would be good for the fuel pump. I have looked at the kits you can buy but figured I could make one cheaper since I get the fleet discount at Carquest.
You can use the baldwin base #FB1311 and baldwin filter #BF1212. Or NAPA filter FIL3405 with NAPA base #FIL4770. There's lots out there, but these are good 2 mic filters.
yup, 3/8 hose for stock hardline replacement, going to the factory pump. Like me, i went ahead and cut the ends off the hardline and left it there, attached to frame, since it looked like a PITA to remove and also, it wasnt in the way of the new 3/8 line.
Chet, i would think, a 2 micron pre-pump set-up, without a lift/helper pump, would kill the factory pump?

The BF1212 is 4 microns nominal and 20 microns absolute (98.6%)...it is the baldwin cross to an FG FS1212...commonly a suction side WS. You will have no problem.
Do not get too caught up in the small micron rating. Fuel filters clog prematurely when the rating gets really small. With the first filter you are really after chunks/trash. The downstream filters will get the rest.
