I have just bought this f250 and it will start right away but runs rich you can smell unburnt fuel. I checked the map sensor and it tested good. I ran some sea foam through the break booster line to clear the vacuum lines and it helped with the rough idle but it is still running rich. the catalytic converter was red hot after a 5 minutes running then the engine choked out then wouldn't re start. looking for were to check next last owner said that fuel pressure was good I will check tomorrow. The fuel pressure regulator doesn't show any fuel in the vacuum line. it also was running with one injector unplugged. I repluged it and will see how it runs tomorrow. Any Ideas what to look at next?
I got no flashes on the check engine light. I did replace the engine coolant temperature sensor since it tested bad. also found a injector not plugged in so i plugged it in but now the truck won't even start.
What are you using to check for codes? Many times the pins on the diagnostic link connector get corroded. The fancy code readers will fail to connect. Cleaning them a small screwdriver or nail file and flushing with contact cleaner is highly suggested.
Clean the contacts or use the "wire method" to check for codes. As mentioned before you should get the all clear code of 111/111 for KOEO and 111/111 for CM if everything is good.
Hopefully the at isn't total toast. If it was red hot it started to melt together.Could be the cause of the no start, not enough exhaust flow. Also double check all of your wiring under the hood, you may have knowcked something loose while you were under the hood
once i replaced the coolant sensor I put in new plugs and it runs like a new truck. Quick oil change to get rid of excess gas in the oil and it is running great thanks for the help.
