door chime won't stop when I remove key.

Hey folks what's up. Been a while since I last stopped buy but I knew someone here could help me. Recently the key chime will not stop when I remove the ignition key. It doesn't do it all the time but is getting more frequent. Usually I can reinsert the key and remove it once or twice and it will stop. Any idea how to remedy this issue? Is there something inside the ignition that can be repaired or am I looking at replacing the entire thing?

Thanks

Mine has done this a time or two, I've usually just put it back in, turned it part way then turned it back. I wonder if possibly a little WD-40 or something similar might free it up. It seems like something is sticking in there

yeah I wondering if its something sticking or something failing. I will try the wd-40 and report back. Apparently it's something very uncommon with no more replys than this.

I have an 05 and it does the same thing, I have put graphite in it but that didn't help. I'm interested in what you guys come up with...

Sounds like a circuit closed and stuck from when the key was in the ignition after you pull it out. I don't know what the fix is, but i would put money on that being the problem. The switch is probably getting stuck in the closed position when you pull the key out. Maybe a more electrical minded person here will know the fix for it though.

I would stay away from spraying wd40 in there. Pretty sure there are electrical connections nearby. Mine has been doing it more often and i was thinking about using white lithium grease or something like it.

No offense but I prefer to fix the problem.

Robertc, thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize there was an issue with WD and electronics. I think I have some electronic contact cleaner. Will try a shot of that instead.

I am not positive you would mess anything up, I just don't feel comfortable getting liquid around connections the factory didn't think would get wet.

I've got 3 trucks with this problem all ford and notice if you lift up or twist slightly on the collar with the key out it stops dinging. i think the switch is gummy or its worn out.
slowly getting around to cutting the wire on them.
(don't want that annoying feature anyway)

Fix is taking your finger and hitting the key entry a few times... It eventually has quit messing up after I did this a lot.... not really a fix but my key in the ignition still chimes and it don't continue after removing the key. This took probably a few weeks of every time it would do it me taking my finger and giving it a good thump
