Shut down and be and had to take a ride on a Roll Back.........
Well, the truck has had what apeared to be an injector noise for a bit and would occasionally puff diesel and make a little pecking noise. It then began to have a rough idle most of the time. Thursday, I hit an exit ramp and when I applied the brake, it idled down and died but started right back up. Later in the day, seemed to try to idle rough then pick up smooth, back and forth. Coming home that night, I had cruise set of 70 and then it all of a sudden dropped speed to sixty. Cruise stayed on but would not go any faster after I turned cruise off. I could see an occasional flicker of a yellow light but was so fast I could not read it. Carried on this way for 12 more miles. a few times it seemed to pick speed up a little. I hit the brake at the exit and she immediately died. Coasted to the side and it never again tried to fire up. just as If out of fuel. THe light flicker was the service engine light but never stayed on. Had to call the roll back. Help If you can please. I just spent 350 bucks on the wifes AC system yesterday and cant really afford to nickle this one with alot of guesses.
I would start to see if there are any codes stored to give you a place to start. I am tempted to say CPS as a good place to start, hopefully you have a spare in your glovebox. How is your fuel level in the tank? How old is the fuel filter? Condition of the fuel pump? Oil fresh and full?
Got any way to read the codes? If the light flickered, there will be a code stored.
If I had to guess at random, I'd say CPS if the truck just shut off and won't re-start. If it spit and sputtered a bunch it could be a dead fuel pump. Is the fuel filter bowl full of diesel or empty?

well, it idled a little rough but seem to run smooth open rd but hard to tell. I had a guy come read my dodge. not sure if he can read that truck. ill have to ask. it stumbles me that it carried on at a slower speed for 8 or so miles. Fuel bowl, I have a new filter but not checked yet. worked on wife AC compressor in 106 degree temps yesterday. She stayed runniong till I hit the brake and she idled to nothing. That fuzzles me.

Oil was a quart low. I dont have a CPS but seen the recall a few times. Fuel filter is about 25,000 miles old.......... No idea on fuel pump and oil is pretty fresh.
