trying to read fuel pressure

Got a fuel pressure gauge today and want to check pressure. The little shrader valve on the FPR doesn't give me enough room to get my gauge in there. Can I disconect one of the hoses going to one of the heads and test there?

Get yourself a street 90* fitting and put the schrader valve in it facing up. That will allow you to hook to it to get your fuel PSI reading.

If my truck ran, I guess that would be a bad idea with half of the cylinders firing and the other half not. But, since the truck doesn't run (can't figure out why and don't want to start another won't start thread) I figured it wouldn't matter.

If you bring up some of the symptoms and what you checked, I bet folks here can help you diagnose it. What have you checked?

What is keeping you from getting the gauge on there? Are you using something other than just a regular old stick style tire gauge?

That's what I'm thinking. I say just save yourself the headache, spend $5 and buy a cheap stick tire gauge. Just make sure it goes up to at least 75 PSI. I think I got my 100 PSI gauge for less than $5.

What's the ideal pressure reading again-55 psi? Is 70 psi too much?

anything from 50 to 70 will run.

Ideal is mid 60's.

When you get above 70, you start floating needle valves.

I use one very similar to this and with the schraeder adapter it barely fits because the engine lifting lug is right there but it did work fantastic. I hate the whole stick tire pressure gauge to check fuel pressure. its a huge headache! use the right tool for the job. or dont and get fuel all over the place, not to mention the need for some one to crank the engine while you fumble with the gauge. not expensive and you can use it more than once being a mechanical pump you will see the pulses in the pressure. thats normal.

I learned a trick the other day. But a remote starter, few bucks at auto store. Disconnect small wire from solenoid; solenoid is near passenger side battery. Connect one of remote starter wires where the little wire was on solenoid. The other remote starter wire goes to battery. Pull first two relays from power distribution do truck won't start. Pull trigger and motor spins. Worked good to read fuel pressure reading when I tested mine

I bought this gauge from the local farm supply store it is oil filled and that stabilizes the needle. The valve chuck thing was separate, total cost less than $20. As you can see my pressure is just on the low side, I did not try to adjust it, just using the BB for now and don't seem to have any problems yet.
