7.3 vs v10 gas

For a mud truck you are going to want it lifted with huge tires, which pretty much renders the truck useless for towing regardless of the engine.
For towing you are going to want a stock truck, not much good for mudding.
Solution:
Find an old beat up 70s or 80s F-350 for dirt cheap and jack it up with some big tires. That's about the best mud truck there is. Then throw it on a trailer behind a 7.3 Super Duty.

Also, just how severe of mud are you talking about? A superduty is a big HEAVY truck, even heavier w/ the diesel - not exactly a great combo for a mud truck.

I had a 1999 F350 Dually 7.3 with 6 speed zf tranny 4:10 rear gears 4"exhaust from the turbo back, S&K cold air intake and I believe it would pull the state of Delaware across country if you could find a place to hook up to.
I traded for a 2009 F350 dually v10 automatic 4.10 rear gears because arthritis makes it damn near impossible to push a clutch in. I thought the v10 would have less power when pulling our camper especially since it is automatic, WRONG.. a week after buying the truck I loaded my Goldwing into the back, hooked up the camper and headed out.To my amazement the v10 auto pulls just as good as the 7.3 manual even when we hit the mountains in north Georgia and Tennessee. The only real difference was no turbo whine and alot less MPG with the v10. So power wise Id say you wont go wrong with either, if you are going to do a lot of Mudding Id say the v10 because of maintenance cost and it will also be less expensive to fix if you break something and yes the v10 is lighter than the 7.3

V10. 7.3's hate high rpms and everything is 2x the cost. 15qts of oil vs 7, your oil change will be 75-80.00 vs 25-30.00, if You want a truck with power and still be able to play around with the v10 is the way to go I think. I've owned and pulled with both trucks and if you get on the v10 it goes! The only thing and real difference is fuel Econ and ownership costs. But personally I like the v10 but as with everuthing there's pros and cons

I'm assuming your a young kid correct? If you want a all around truck get the V10 and make sure it has 4.10 or 4.30 gears only, don't get the tiny 3.73 they suck. A V10 on average gets around 12mpg around town and 8mpg towing heavy, but towing 5k from field to field is noting a 5.4 could do that for years with no problem. But you seem to be young by the question on whats faster a 7.3 or V10.... so a 7.3 when properly built can be quite fast but your talking money, a V10 with 4.10 or 4.30 gears and a tuner is a awesome rig and can be fun as h$ll to drive. For what your asking id get a 2000-2004 Super Duty with the V10 and 4.30 gears. This way you'll have the power to tow 5k and you can add 35 inch tires for the mud and the 4.30 gears will help with turning them tires in the mud
