6 quarts brings me to about 3/4 of a quart low so I just add the full quart

I believe the older 5.4s take 6 quarts, but the 3Vs take 7.

That's about the same case for me, 7 quarts was probably about 3/4 quart low. The 8th quart brings it just a hair above full.

I wasn't really all that concerned about this, more of a head scratcher than anything. I would rather make sure it's where it's supposed to be on the dipstick than worry about the exact quantity of oil. Even if there is one extra quart in there, I doubt it's going to hurt anything. Now if I was having to put 12 quarts in it, then I would be concerned.

Mine take 6 quarts.

If you know someone with a 3V 5.4L engine, maybe you could compare dipsticks?

maybe you got a 2v dipstick in your truck. Im sure the 3v has a longer tube and the 2v are shorter. So this will make the dipstick fill lines above where they should be with the longer tube. maybe it was a mistake when installed by ford.

The 2007 5.4l 3V in both the F-150 and SD is listed as having a 7qt oil capacity.

I have a 2010 F250 with the 5.4L. I never check my oil until the engine has warmed and the oil has had a chance to cool. I have changed it 7 times now and I get out 6 1/4 - 6 1/2 quarts and put in 7. I have actually only checked it a couple of times with the dipstick, but it did seem accurate. Have no reason to check it unless I see evidence of a leak, which I haven't.

This was bugging me so I went out and measured - right at 39 5/8" to where the base of the yellow cap hits the tube. Mine takes 7qts and is just shy of the full line.
