Hey guys I have a steep driveway and notice when I go up it I spin my tires. Im wondering if weight in the back of the truck would help or could changing my diff to posi help? Its a 92 f150 with 5.0L e40d
Here in Alaska (great frozen north) nothing replaces great tires, limited slip and a little weight directly over the axles. If it's really bad, put her in 4x4. Also I believe if your shocks are worn out that could hurt traction.
Depends on what's in the tool box. Ideally the weight would be over or behind the rear axle so side boxes would be better. In my '89 I bolted an old large military ammo can in the bed behind the wheel well to keep my chains in. I think it was a 20mm can. Get some of those or those tool boxes designed to fit around wheelwells and fill 'em with tools and chains.
I also have a 92 ext.cab 4x4 and I agree with all the things the guy's have recommended . I also have a steep driveway about 400 feet down to a bridge on our property and a steep hill up to our stable . So that being said , 4 wheel drive, good tires plus some weight over the rear axle and I go up and down easily without any problem. It would be nice to add an LSD or selectable locker, but for now I'm fine. I will add one or the other if I ever have to repair my rear axle assy. That is when it will cost effective for me. Let us know what you decide and how you like it. good luck '92
I have new shocks so I dont think that is a factor. I want to put a toolbox in the truck but never really wanted them in the side but will look into them. I like the idea of the Limited slip diff. Any recomendations on a good brand for a fair price?
