Re- Gearing My 96 F150

Hi, I'm thinkin about puttin a lift on my 1996 F150 single cab 4x4. It has a 351 Windsor in it with a K and N air intake. It already has Big 33"/12.5 O Big Foots on it with 15 inch wheels, but I want to put a 6 inch on it with 35's with 16 inch wheels. But I wasn't sure whether or not I'm gunna have to put different gears in it or have to gear it differently because of the bigger tires or being higher off of the ground? Any help at all would be great.
Thanks.

You'll almost surely want to change to a lower gear ratio. What ratio does it have now and what are you going to use the truck for? I'd go for about 4.10:1 if it's an all-round truck that sees lots of street time.

Keep in mind that 35's are probably about as big as you can go with the stock axles if you really want to have fun off road.

Go with 4.56 if you do any off road. 4.10 would likely put it back like stock.

With 35" tires you need 4.30 gears just to get back to the stock final drive ratio but considering how much heavier those big meats are it wouldn't be a bad idea to go to 4.56 gears.

$300 to $500 per axle isn't uncommon and the front will cost more because of the labor involved in getting the pumpkin out of there. You could save a lot of that labor cost if you were to source another D44 pumpkin from the scrapyard and have it regeared and then install it in the truck yourself, which isn't hard work just time consuming.
