Canceled our summer trip to Central Colorado

Usually this time of year, we pack up the 5er and head to Central Colorado, specifically around Buena Vista. My sister lives there and I just got off the phone with her. She said that there are fires on all four sides of her now and everyone is worried. It is tender dry and the Arkansas River is very low. The National Forest Service is asking people NOT to camp in NFS campgrounds and are closing most. The next week beeing the 4th of July, they are especially concerned as "stupid" people bring fireworks to the mountains and set them off.
We decided to do more of a staycation since the WEST is in fire.
Thought I would pass this along as I know of lot of us usually head to the cool air for a week or two to dodge the heat of the south and midwest.

Happy camping all but be safe with fire!

We normally go up in the CO mountains for a couple of weeks but this year I think we will pass. Where we go the beetles killed off a lot of the trees do it's just a fire waiting to happen.

We were just thinking of going to a cooler clime for a bit.... but 2nd guessing like you !

You could come up to North Texas to visit here - we had a cold front come through and it's only 100 here

Good sense. We were sitting here this morning trying to think of some place cool to go, but drew a blank.

Yes, it would be nice to have more options. About the only other option we have here is the Ruidoso NM area, but it burned up last week ugggg. It was 106 here yesterday. Headed to the coast, may be a little rough water due to the Debby but should calm down. It is still going to be hot....

I live here in Casper Wyoming and although we aren't burning up quite as much as Colorado is we still have about 5 fires burning and its quite dry. Most places you can't even use a charcoal grill. As much as I hate to say it I suggest that everyone avoid the Mountain West this summer. Come and see us next summer, maybe it will be better then.

You can't even use propane stoves, or smoke, outdoors (legally)in Colorado now. We lost 346 homes in a very upscale neighborhood here in Co Springs Wednesday, got 18,000 + acres burned just outside of town and still spreading. It's not a good year for Colorado residents or visitors.
