93 Ranger Transmission Interchangeable with a 91 or 92?
I have a "93 Ranger 2.3L with a manual transmission that just went out unexpectadly. I have a buddy that has one he thinks will fit. He believes it to be off of a 91 or 92 Ranger. I haven't seen the new transmission yet and am having trouble finding out if a 91 or 92 2.3L has the same transmission as my 93. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable? Thanks in advance

Thanks Khan. From what I can tell from the research I've done so far, the M50D was used from 1988 to 1997? Yes, I'm a little mad at myself for not doing better maintenance on the transmission, I thought the manuals were indestructive. The truck has 160,000 miles and never given me any trouble, I figure the tranny would be the last to go. Also, mine is an extended cab Ranger-would this make any difference when replacing the transmission? Thanks again

No, the trans should be the same in pretty much whatever. I think the bell housing is part of the trans, so I'm pretty sure that you have to get a trans from a donor that has the same motor.
The fluid should be replaced about every 30,000 - 50,000 miles with fresh Mercon V, not gear oil. Gear oil is way too heavy and results in wear problems.
