5spd MT to AT conversion
Hey guys I have a 96 f350 4x4 crew cab long bed power stroke truck with a 5speed manual in it and was wondering how hard is it to convert to to an automatic trans? I see people doing the 5 spd swap but nobody goin the other way so that's why I ask. Plus I live in Los Angeles so stick kind of blows in traffic over here

I think it's a lot easier to convert auto to manual, than manual to auto. I've done auto to manual before, but to do manual to auto you would need....
1) Trans wiring harness
2) Auto trans cross member
3) Drive shafts
4) P R N D 2 1 Gauge cluster (or that piece that goes in it)
5) Shift tube and shifter with OD wiring harness
6) Plastic cover around steering column
7) Shift cable
8) Auto pedal box
9) Trans cooler and lines ( and radiator if not already equipped )
10) Flex plate and spacer
11) Correct t-case shifter linkage ( if 4x4 )
12) And E4OD auto trans
........I'm probably forgetting something, but that's all I can think of now.

Add to that list the Auto PCM and the floor pan without the hole. Plus you will likely have to have the drive shaft length modified. Bottom line is that it is a lot of work to go through to convert to a weaker, more expensive to rebuild, less reliable transmission. But it is more convenient!
