1948 Ford F6

I recently bought a 1948 Ford F6 that was used as a work truck on my family's farm. I am going to restore it to original condition and was wondering what it would be worth in like new condition. Any information is appreciated. I'll also probably be coming back for more information about the restoration, so keep me in mind.

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

It'll be worth whatever you can get someone to pay you for it.

In general, and unfortunately, about 1/3rd to 1/2 what it costs you to restore it.

I am restoring my 55 F-600.

Just rebuilding the engine, replacing the widowmaker wheels and new tires (recaps on the back)

Wheels and tires ($2800)

New brakes: $500+
(shoes, wheel cyls, M/C, turned drums, wheel bearings, seals)

Engine, $2000

I haven't blasted and primed my frame and sheet metal yet but that's going to be about $600-800

Paint and interior ($$$ who knows?)

Lets see, where am I now? I'm over $6000 and it's not assembled, painted, interior, instruments, glass, probably another $6000 or more.

I expect I'll have around $15000 in it when I'm done. Certainly not as much as a new one.

But if I tried to sell something like this I don't think anyone would pay more than about $7500 or so. They're on ebay once in a while and they never go very high.

If you have that flathead rebuilt it'll be anywhere from $2500-3000 maybe more to do it right.

If you're going to drive it and use it, it's absolutely worth it.

You'll enjoy it for years.

If you are going to sell it, plan on NOT making any "money".

Regards,

Rick

I agree with Rick. There's not a lot of following for the bigger trucks, so the market for buyers is pretty small. And I think you'll find that typically, the folks that are into the big trucks are a little tighter in the wallet than the "normal" truck guys, which isn't to say we all aren't cheap. Restoring something like an F-6 has to be something you do from the heart, without regard for resale value. If you look at it from a purely dollars and cents standpoint, it makes no sense at all. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome. The truck belonged to your family, so that makes it priceless IMO. We need pictures.

I think you'll LOVE the truck when it's done!
