new issue, weird to me

So I bought a truck saturday morning....got it going with the added bonus of issues.......

The truck - 1977 F250 4x4, 300 strait 6, granny gear manual trans.... keep in mind that the truck has been sitting in a back yard since 1993ish and yesterday was the most the truck has done anything in awhile

What has been replace in the last 18 hours
cap, roter, plugs, wires, ignition brain, fuel pump, most of the rubber fuel line peices, carb rebuilt, 2 new fuel filters - (one before the pump and one at the carb), water pump, themostat, radiator, and oil change

The issue
Got everything done to it, got it running, and took it out on a test run. Temperature NEVER got above 182°F on the aftermarket gauge I put in. Drove it to town about 5 1/2 mi away. Drove fine so far. Stoped by aytoz(ne , stoped at the gas station, then started home... just on the outer edge of town it started to stall, buck, die, and pop. Check things out, nothing looked wrong, so after sitting there no more than 3 minutes tried to start it...............it took a couple moments to start but it did start. It did the same thing to me about 6-7 more time the last 4 1/2 miles home coastin the last 1/3 mi. When I can get the truck started, it will idle all day long but when you drive it more that 5 mins after its all warm it bucks, kixk, and all that

I'm stumped. I dought a coil would do that and my friend say to drain and clean the fuel tank. What sould I do/look at? Hopefully I had a good enought decription

Thanks in advance!

I'd clean out the gas tank or get a new one. If it sucked up some bad fuel, u might have to put new filters on again after u do that. Run some good fuel system cleaner in it afterwards too.

Typically, bucking kicking, etc is a fuel related issue. Dying instantly is typically a electricle issue. With what you described, it is probably a fuel issue.

I assume you drained the old fuel and added new here. I mean, if you performed all that engine work, you knew the old fuel was an issue...right? LOL

Since this truck sat since 1993, I'd guess the fuel tank is rusted inside and the pick up "sock" in the tank located on the fuel guage assembly is getting plugged as you drive and it picks up rust and garbage.

So, pull and replace the tank with another or get this one cleaned and the inside coated with plastic from a local shop. I've seen this issue many times in stored/sitting vehicles.

I would still check the coil too, I have seen them overheat and died, cool off and work till it gets hot. But it is more than likely a fuel issue.

2x! Till it happens to you; you'd swear it was fuel related....

Replace the fuel filter between the tank and the pump. I like to run see-through filter where I can see how much rust is coming from the tank and you can see when it clogs up.

Mine was doing something like that and it turns out it was getting vapor lock. My friend that I bought it from installed a fuel filter just before the carb because there was all sorts of **** in the tank. It was right by the t-stat housing and would get too hot once the truck warmed up. It would idle fine most of the time, but once you started driving it would die (usually within a mile or so). It was also sucking air at the fuel filter under the cab which didn't help at all.

well, this morning I had to run it a couple miles to pick up the new tire from a friends dad, it ran just fin there. Got the tires on, got half way home and it died. I looked in the fuel filter an there were some large rust particals that were not there saturday night. Got the truck going again an got it home.

I pulled the fuel line off at the filter I put in before the pump and used the air compressor and blew out the line from the tank to the pump. Pulled the tank out from behind the seat and sure enough was there junk big time. Drained it, rinsed it out for like 20 minutes, made sure it was as dry as I could get it and put it back in.

I put in 2 bottles of the "dry-gas" bottles and dumped in some more gas and so far it has seems to have worked... I'm gonna try to drive the truck into work tomarrow, see how it works out

if there is any text under this line, ignore it. I'm on my phone and it descided to have a hissy and act up....sorry 'bout it. I cant gey back to it to fix it

I put in 2 bottles
