I don't know where you're quoting those "facts" from, but the 70 F100 I had in the 80's came with a 4 bbl from the factory. Course the "390" under it wasn't a 390 though either.

"250 and a 4 speed", a combo possibly straight out of an early '80s Grandad. That 4 speed won't work with an FE. It is an aluminum cased SROD very light duty trans.

If OEM, it would be a 240 with a granny first gear transmission like the T18 or NP435. Either of those will work with a 390, but they are truck transmissions, are slow to shift and have wide ratio spreads.

So I'd have to use a car 4 speed that would fit right?

If you want a fast shifting 4 speed with close ratios, see post 18. Yes, those were car transmissions.

so many after market parts in the engine
Jesus Christ that thing has power!(we met a 2000's honda civic at a light, it took off before us and we caught up next to it and were in the lead until we hit about 110)
The only thing i dont like about it is that it runs on jet fuel...im not sure what octane grade that is..
Sorry for pulling this up 5 days later but this is one of my pet peeves that "hotrodders" claim. Your friends truck did NOT run on jet fuel. In fact if he tried it, he wouldnt even get it to run at all.

Jet fuel is kerosene, and I haven't seen a 390 yet that ran for crud on kerosene or diesel fuel.

But jet fuel sounds so much racier than kerosene....

Rob, That is what I was thinking, while hoping someone else would speak up.

I believe there is a high octane AV gas that one could purchase.

He is most likely running 103 octane Low lead aviation fuel. Gasoline. NOT JET FUEL!
I go to the local airport now and again and buy the 103 for my cousins race truck.

Joel, I have very strong feelings on this issue, the gas is not free, they are stealing it. That sir is not honorable.

John back in the 70s when this Old Fart was young dumb and full of stuff. I was in the USAF and worked the flight line. On the Fridays we would load our cars up with AV gas for the weekends. Only problem was there was nowhere to pay for it at those particular pumps. In a way I guess you could say we were paying for it as federal taxes were comming out of our paychecks. My 66 Chevelle did have alot more snap to it with that fuel onboard but it didnt last all weekend long if you know what I mean.

Vic, I suppose there was no place to pay for USAF gas that was on USAF property that was only supposed to be put into USAF aircraft. Bet there are regulations concerning placing USAF AVgas in anything but USAF aircraft. Certainly not the delivery truck.

Just wondering if you have another term that you prefer over mine.
