9" spool install

i just purchased a spool for my 81 f-150 with a 9" rear. do the r&p gears need to be re-setup after the spool is installed or just bolt the ring gear on and go with it?

If it's a full spool, yes, you need to setup the gears. If it's a mini spool you don't.

Any time a carrier is changed the gears should be setup.

You do not need to set the pinion depth, you do need to set the backlash. All you need is a dial indicator, or can do it by feel. Just make is feel like it did in the first place. It is the easy part of a gear set-up. Do use a dial indicator if you have one. If not you can look at the tech articles, one of them says the correct backlash, you can use a set of feeler gauges instead of a dial indicator. (they cost about $2)

Oh and by the way, your going to love it.
