Windshield and rear glass questions
Just wondering what windshields if any are interchangeable with my 81 f350 standard cab. Also wondering if anyone knows if the rear glass is the same, thinking I may want to swap out the solid rear window for a sliding rear glass. Might help keep the interior cooler cause man this 85+ weather is kicking my behind. Thanks for any help

I believe the glass interchanges throughout this series. I know the back glass does as I can see that in the parts catalog, although I can't seem to find the windshield there so can't prove it on it. But, if you have the windshield replaced be careful because many windshield men will install a later windshield, and the open area for the VIN is in a different spot than on our trucks. I made the mistake of allowing one to be installed and when I sold the truck I got lucky and the DMV guy worked with me, but I had to remove the dash pad and use a light and a mirror for him to see it.

Thank you Mr. Gary, the windshield is kinda a precaution. I have to have the windshield pulled out to have it reset due to the sealant wearing out and the bottom half of the windshield just floating. Ik am hoping the pull it out without any problems but you just never know. Thank you for the help with the rear glass I really appreciate it, replacing that glass will help me out with a nice vacuum vacuum through the cab. Thanks again,

Windshield from 87-96/97 will fit, but as Gary pointed out, the VIN location is a bit different. This can be addressed before the glass is installed, by scraping off some of that black border to expose the correct area. Nearly impossible to do once the glass is in place though......

Yepperz, same rear window from 73 thru 96/97. Factory part number *may* differ, but aftermarket sliding windows are listed as fitting both cab styles. Factory sliders differed over the years, so there's likely 3-4 (or more) different part numbers for these.

LOL, guess i didnt think of having the reverse vacuum coming back in. i would have to say i havent had that problem with preious trucks. I take that back i had a run in with a 4x4 going through the back window, and the multch I had in the bed decided that it no longer wanted to ride back there and insisted to fly around the inside of the cab.

That reverse vacuum is caused by the "air pillow/pocket" that forms in the back of the bed.
For more information about that "air pillow/pocket", look up mythbusters and their myth about leaving the tailgate down gives you more fuel mileage. (BTW: Leaving the tailgate down costs more in fuel.)
To paraphrase CTUBUTIS, rear windows fit 1973-1996.
Although that may be true, the thickness of the glass can be different, and it's important to match the correct year seal with the correct year glass for a proper fit. IE: Using a 1973 rear window using a 1982 seal will give you very poor sealing results, and visa versa. Search the forums on both 1973-1979, and this one for more info and part numbers. (I don't feel like doing it yet again. )
