5.4 F250 started hesitating/rough idle

Hey all:

2004 F250, 6 sp, 5.4L 4x4, limited slip all stock with 75k. Just started hesitating at speed, just a little kick here and there like a fish knibbling on your line. Then, it got worse...begain to idle rough ranging between 850-1200 rpm at stop lights. No engine light.

Now heres the kicker: I just replaced the fuel filter and put in a bottle of gumout....I cleaned the MAF sensor and the plugs were just replaced.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your input!

Hello Bachstrad99 and welcome to FTE.

I would start by checking/cleaning/replacing your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve.

Will do. Theoretical question: Would the IAC also contribute to the hesitation at highway speed? Or does it just do its thing at idle? I will clean either way, just trying to learn a bit.

Yes, it could cause issues at highway speed if it is creating a slightly lean condition.

Thanks for the input. I did the procedure on the IAC and cleaned the MAF sensor.......started up and still a hesitation.

Where should I look now?
