help with zf5 speed rebuild

I was needing help finding out what parts i need to order. I ordered the short throw shifter from jim last week, and this week i and gonna order a new clutch. The throw out bearing is really squeaking bad, and i wanted to replace clutch while i was in there. My prob with the transmission is some times it pops out of 2nd and it also grinds going into reverse. Im gonna get my parts from midwest trans also. This is for my 95 so it has the 42 in it. Thanks for your help.

I had similar problems on mine, grinding in low gears and reverse and popping out of second. IIRC, the grinding was synchros - I replaced. The popping was a worn shift collar (part that slides over the synchros and gears). Wasn't cheap...

How does the short throw work? Does it just replace the shifter?

Do the shift collars come in the syncro kit?

Bill i was just wondering the same thing. The short throw kit shorten up the distance between the gears. There is a spacer and other stuff. It gives you more leavradge so you dont move the shifter so far. Pm dzljim or go to his rosewood diesel shop site for a price.

If either of you (Gabe or Bill) need the rebuild tool kit for the ZF, let me know via PM. I picked one up real cheap for a project a few months back, then the project fell through.

Adds riser to the shift tower where the shifter bolts to and replaces the shifter with a longer piece. This changes the fulcrum point thus shortens the throw needed to change gears.
