Clear or Amber parking light lens on 57-58?

I see both Clear and Amber available on Dennis Carpenter. Was one the factory version and the other just what aftermarket decided to offer?

Clear or Amber parking light lens on 57-58?

I think either will look OK. I thought about this a while and decided to go clear, (stock), but use an 1157 NA (or its modern day equivilent) bulb in them. Looks stock, until it lights, and the "NA" (natural amber) bulbs give about the same color as the amber lenses, but a little brighter.

The lenses can be bought @ NAPA too. Just look or ask for big truck fender mount turn signal replacement lenses. Can be had in clear, amber, red (for tail lights). Get the ones with the 3 holes. They should have gaskets too.

Aloha, Tony

1963 was the first year for amber T/S lenses (D1UZ-13208-A replaced C3TZ-13208-A), prior years were clear.

Thanks for the clarifications. It looks like I will follow up on Tony's recommendation for NAPA so I don't get hit with a shipping charge.

Unfortunately it is about 3 hours from my house. Of course, if I find enough parts I need at once it will justify the trip.

I flew R/T from LA LA Land to Charlotte, bought several repro parts from DC for my '63 Galaxies I couldn't find NOS.

'Course, I didn't fly to Charlotte just to visit DC, that would have been insane. 2004, the Studebaker Drivers Club annual show/swap meet was held in Charlotte that year, so "She who must be obeyed" and I decided to attend.

After the event ended, we drove to DC's place.

I have 3 sets clear, amber and blue. Not sure on where I got the blue from. Here the vehicle code just stipulates turn signals being yellow/amber in color either by bulb or lens.

When amber parklamp lenses were first introduced (cars had them before trucks), it was illegal in some states to use them or amber bulbs in place of clear lenses/bulbs.

Blue lenses are illegal in CA in any location, as are red lenses installed on the front of vehicles, excepting Police, Fire and emergency vehicles, as all have these lenses.

Hood bug deflectors in blue and red are also illegal in CA. Only black, smoke and clear deflectors are legal.

Today, amber lenses are required with clear bulbs, or clear lenses are required with amber bulbs. I would assume other states, Canadian provinces are no different than CA
