Forum newb with '73 F100 LWB FE 390

Just tellin' the world hello... this is now my second post in any forum I've signed up for, the first time here, although I joined some time ago... anyways about my truck:

...picked it up in December 2011. No brakes... engine barely turning over... and this is what she looks like so far, which no (cosmetic) changes have been made since i got it...

...to date, i've had the tranny and engine rebuilt ,along with a few pick-me-ups like an edelbrock intake, edelbrock 4BBL, hooker headers, edel brock chain and crank, pertonics ignition (to replace the points it still had by the way), true dual magna flows with 2 1/2 pipes right behind the tires... this is what the engine looks like now...

...i forgot to grab the before shot, but in case you're wondering, the engine was a matching set with the looks of the tranny when it was originally pulled...

...just a few questions:

Anyone figure out how to pump gas in these things at full rate??? ...the slow trigger is a PITA!!!

I have this weird electrical issue, where the lights fade in and out when I'm at high rpm, do you think this is the headlight switch that needs replacing?

Thanks for your time guys!!!

1. when you fill up with fuel park your truck at the right angle
2. lift the bed so it's not pinching the filler neck. you can lift the bed off and reshape the area that the filler neck goes or go with a small body lift... I'm not a body lift fan but it works. (I think they look stupid)

Wellcome to FTE, Engine looks real good, it probably looked about the same as my FE did a few weeks ago when i got it ,pretty dirty. I just replaced it with a 302 and still doing a little adjusting on it.
Your filler hose may be flattened or some thing got dropped in it and it is caught in the bend. My 73 fills up real fast, faster than any of the four 79s I had.------JIM

Nice looking engine, I like the valve covers that you have on there. My 76 has a cab gas tank and it fills fast and the 460 engine will take it just as fast....

so i took a few shots today... is there anything that looks out of the ordinary to you? i noticed the filler tube is designed to be somewhat flat, but is this more than normal?

It looks normal.

I have the same issue and found out (by experimenting) that it will fill faster if I turn the gas pump nozzle upside down. Still a PITA but at least I don't have to do the "trickle-fill".

I have to do this, and I replace mine a few years ago. I know it is important to tape the two hoses together, but I find some pumps work while other I have to fill it at mid position, which may only take a minute or two more, but sometime I find the nozzle upside down trick keept it from clicking off. But I would have to agree, they look normal to me.

PS: Welcome to the fourm, and that 390 looks real sharp!

i've noticed someone else mention taping the hoses together as well. i may try that today. was there any particular place where you taped it, or did you just wrap the heck out of it all?

I suppose I should hook up my filler neck before I bolt my bed down huh. I had forgot all about it till reading this post and I went out & looked under my truck to see how pinched mine was in my 76. hahahaha
