Talking Mystery solved

Jezzz sometimes things take a couple of times to figure out.
I just installed some new headers and the Bronco was sounding great until I got this awful exhaust leak that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't find.
Well I finally got a few hours to string together to locate this nasty exhaust leak, I looked and looked and guess where I found that little bugger?
I guess when I was installing the new headers I must have ever so softly tapped up against the number 6 spark plug wire and in doing so I put a small hair line crack in the insulator of you guessed it number 6 spark plug, installed new plug problem solved.

Anyone else ever have a self inflicted problem that made them a little crazy?

YEP..........But not one that was an accedent like yours was.The problem I had is SOOOO embaressing that I shouldn't even bring it up. I bought an Edelbrock 400 performer intake, get it home and out of the box, bolt it on the engine put the HEI distributor in and what the!!!! I have NO adjustment on the distributor!!!!!! I can't turn it because it hits the intake runner.I phone Performance Improvements and ask what the hell is wrong. They don't know. I even ask on the FTE engine forums. NO one can tell me whats wrong. My wife (the old girl) comes into the shop has a nose about and asks me( in front of 2 or 3 buddies) " How come the made in the U.S.A. tag is facing the back of the engine". I don't think I have to tell you what was wrong. WAS this old boy turning red. Popa john

I hear ya

My trouble came from the fact that the problem didn't show up until after about a month after I'd installed the headers so it was not my first choice for trouble shooting and it really sounded like a small exhaust leak because I didn't lose any power or it didn't seem to misfire but my hint was it did tend to back fire when you let of the gas pedal off from time to time and it was starting to get more frequent that's what had me looking at a possible bad ignition wire or spark plug.

Rick, at least you got to fix your problem with NO side effects. MY problem is also fixed BUT.... with 2 or 3 side effects. THEY will NOT let me forget. Now everytime I am stumped, they tell me to " Have Peggy take a look at it"!!!! SHEESH. @ Rick from Peoria, I have to agree with you about the brain farts and I think we will BOTH agree a brain fart can be fixed, but I think this falls into the catagory of a MAJOR seniors moment!! LOL Popa John

How ya doing Chad? Been a while since you posted last. Yeah, I have to agree a cheap fix is ALWAYS best..... even if it is a little embarrassing. LOL I will always try a fix on my own before I call someone. BUT.... this time around I don't know why I just didn't turn the intake around. OH well it's taking shape. Popa John

No truck time yet this year. Haven't even driven it yet this year other than to move it out of the way of other stuff in the garage.
