I don't know if I am welcome here, but:

I am building a rather-large (quarter scale) radio control truck.

Someone gave me a fiberglass body. The body is a Ford pickup. Based on pictures online and a few around town here in North East Connecticut, I've decided it most-closely represents an 80 - 86 F150/250.

I am looking for a few ford fans to help give me suggestions on what to do with this build, and also looking for some information about what the chassis should look like.

Please note that I am not trying to build a scale replica of a particular year truck, but I do want it to at least look like a generic chassis from the right year-range truck.. I want the body and chassis to look like they belong together..

Also, the tires that I have available are 10 inches in diameter, so will resemble 40-inch tires.. I am unfortunately only able to build the truck 2-wheel drive at this time but I want it to look right sitting on 40 inch tires ... I would really love for someone to show me pictures of their real truck with 38 or 40 inch tires ...

Here is a link to a couple photos of the truck body sitting on a "hand truck" or "mover's dolly" for sake of photos. The tires will be slightly larger than what is in the photo, and will look more like truck tires than the garden-cart/balloon tires that are in the photo. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y89...ot/f250sig.png

looking forward to some useful answers..

Interesting, what are you going to use to power it?

The body you have looks to be more of the '92 era. (Look at the headlamps and wrap around front markers).

You've already given me more to go on, which I appreciate. I spent a good deal of time today searching around for technical drawings of chassis, but.. I find plenty of ford chassis from the 40's and some from the 30's even.. one or two from the mid 50's .... Not one from the 80's or 90's .....

Admins, should this thread be moved, if the body I have isn't in the right time period?

anyways, the truck will be entirely electric. I have a maximum power availability of 30 volts at 50 amps (actually, spikes up to 33.6 volts at 100 amps, for up to 3 seconds). From that, I will be powering the rear axle assembly from a "mobility scooter." From a little testing a couple weeks ago, running on 24 volts, I know that my 11 year old nephew Cameron physically cannot stop the truck, it simply shoves him backwards on pavement. The truck weighs probably 150 pounds currently (TWO car batteries, the wheelchair motor and axle, and remains of the wheelchair chassis) and simply has more traction and power than he can stop. I managed to pull a pop-up trailer around on flat pavement without the thing seeming to care much!

Anyways, I really hope to find a few more Ford fans that are interested in helping me and seeing where this build goes. Not only do I need the information, but the motivation as well!!

I say to look in each forum when you have a question and try to determine what forum would have the best chance of answering your question. Don't limit yourself to just one forum if another one would serve you better.

I agree it looks like an 87 and later body given the turn signals. As for frame, many guys that are doing big projects post pics of the frames. So you might find some there. But, I have a frame with a cab on it I could post a pic of I that would help.

If I had to say, I wouldn't even call it a Ford. It looks more like a miniature Toyota Hilux to me.

The more I look at it, the more it does look like an 80 to 86 F-series. The way the fender wells are cut makes it look off though.

I'll help out if this is what you are after. I have a couple of these on my computer, but my project is a few hours away. It wouldn't be a problem to get measurements or something the next time I pass. If you are interested in some more pictures, let me know!

Truth be told, it looks like an F-Series cab and bed with a 92+ Econoline front clip.

Kind of a fun project...looks like a mid year Ranger to me. Wrap headlights, auto (mustang) door handles, simple body line...yup...Ranger (93 ish).
