08 6.4 250 - P2199 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1/2 Correlation

Hello. I'm really new to diesels so please bare with me.

My truck threw a check engine light along with the dreaded wrench light. When I scanned it I found p2199. I couldn't find much on the web other then one is located in manifold and the other is part of the MAF. I also read somewhere that it trips this code if they deviate more then 20 degrees from each other. (Although that could be totally wrong)

I figured I would try and replace the cheap one first and see what happened. When I pulled the old one out, it was surprised to find it completely covered in tar.

I figured I would take a pic and throw it up here to get opinions. Is this normal? Also, the 2nd pic is after I wiped it down. Truck has 101K on it btw.

Thanks in advance for you opinions.

I've moved your post to the 6.4L Powerstroke Diesel forum. You should get a better response here.

probably was the sensor being bad. All that gunk may have effected it as well. That gunk is probably because of a certain amount of crank case vapors that gets fed back through the intake to get reburned.

are you talking about the EGR system?

Is there a way to clean all that crap out? if so, should I?

Thanks

Not necessarily the egr system but your crank case if vented back into the into.

see your fill canister and the hose going into the intake.

Just wanted to post an update for future searches.

The sensor did fix the problem and the code has not returned. However, it turns out the wrench light was from the water in fuel sensor being bad. I replaced that a few days later and things are now working perfectly with the truck. Next up...Getting the stuff together to performs the deletes.

Glad to see you got it fixed.

And thank you for returning to update this for future searches as this does not happen often enough. It's likely to help someone out in the future. Reps sent.

glad to hear the result as well. A good code reader that will read ford specific codes is a good investment.
