Lowering a 1990 2WD F150

Hey Guys,

***I have searched but it seems that not too many people are modifying this generation of 2 wheel drivers...***

So it seems that after months and months and months of searching all types of Ford trucks, I will be taking ownership of my dad's 2WD 1990 F150. It is a regular cab long bed with a 5.0 and E4OD auto trans. It is going to prove to be a pretty big project, with mild modification.

I already know that I want the ride height to be lower than stock, though not by much. In fact, it is the rear that I am most interested in bringing down. I have heard about doing the axle flip to drop the rear but that might be more drop than I want. The Gen1 Lightning has a great stance (about 1.5" lower up front) and I'd like my truck to sit something like that...are the L springs affordable and available? What is different in the rear of the L? The leaf springs themselves or the way they are mounted? I also plan to upgrade to the performance sway bars that LMC Truck offers.

Any input or PICS especially would be great. I plan to stick with an old school wheel setup of 15x8 front 15x10 rear with some fat BFG Radial T/A rubber, but that is a ways off yet.

Thanks in advance!

im not sure if im correct or if this would work, but when raising the fornt of a 2wd by only a few inches, you cna buy offset bushings for the front, to correct for positive camber. Im sure if you found some lowering springs for yours, you coudl get some 3-5 degree offset bushings to counteract the negative camber.

I found a set of springs on eBay said to drop the front about 1" which is good for me...I want subtle. Combine that with the shackles I also found on eBay that can drop 2" in the rear...that might be good...though I might want another inch out of the rear...

You can get lightning springs on NLOC form time to time. Or some drop springs. If you want the rear down 2" get DJM shackles. If more get the shackles and remove a leaf from the spring pack.

Do an advanced search in 87-96 section and search "lowered" or "lowering"

There are a lot of threads.

I'd recommend a 3" front and a 4" drop on the rear. I went with a 3-5 and its just to much drop on the rear. I want to drop the front another inch on my vehicle so it sits 4" in the front and 5" in the rear.

What ever you do, "Do not use the DJM Dream Beams or Flip kit. I broke a beam when driving normally down a residential street and the Flip Kit Brackets bend all to pieces and end up cracking your rear end differential around were the brackets go.....Well that's what happened to me.

Good luck to you!

Yep notorious problems with djm. I have bent my flip brackets horribly. I ended up getting the belltech 7" flip kit and did the notch and welded in the flip saddles as theirs as gusseted well.

i've dropped my 95 with a 4/5 setup and my 87 with a 2/3 setup ... L springs are the way to go if you only want a 1.5" -2" drop... make sure to look for a set with low miles..
