V10 excursion, fuel pressure drop, long crank

270k miles on a v10 excursion, 2005, got cold today, went to start and had to crank for 3x as long as usual, motor caught, fired immedietly, had absolutely no issues. went to work, hooked up pressure tester to fuel rail, got to 35psi and no drops or anything when running, shut off, dropped down to 30 psi within 2 seconds, down to 20 in 10 seconds, then 0 in less then 30. are we talking bad fuel pump check valve or whtaver is called, or a leaking injector? i have absolutely no codes, not misses, no loss of power. i dunno.

Being that you checked the pressure I would guess your on the right track. Might try changing the filter prior to dropping the tank if it hasn't been done in a while. Since your pressure dropped that would tell me it isn't a injector though.

If it is a fuel pump here is a how to from the Excursion section. A few other Excursion members have had the same issue.

In the meantime you don't have to tax your starter and battery: just cycle the key on and off before cranking.
Turn to On, wait about 3seconds, then back off- then immediately on, wait 3 seconds, then off then directly to Crank-start.

Fuel pressure regulator is leaking back. If you had a leaky injector, it would hydro-lock.

But then, I never really noticed if my fuel rail holds pressure after the key is off. Once you turn the key on, the fuel pump should bring up the pressure quick.
