1979 rear slip yoke

Does the rear slip yoke just slide off or is there some type of retainer ring holding it on? My is really stiff and won't slide at all I have to tap it with a hammer to get it to move. I broke 2 U-joints so far I think it's because it won't slide. Was gonna take the yoke off and clean it then grease it. Thanks

The retainer is probably pressed on.
